    Yes I did read through the info on Niall,but it didn't dawn on me that that could be the reason why so many different surnames.
    I just went back to my match page,clicked on a lot of their names and all of them have tested positive for the Niall chromosome.

      I have just one match that is a generic distance of 1,but with a different surname,could this mean my family's surname was changed to what it is now within the last 4-12 generations because it says we share a common ancestor within the last 4 (57.59% ) to 12 (97.14%) generations.

        How do you see the new matches on FTDNA ? my tab says I have new matches but they are not showing.
        I did click on the match date column.
