  • Full Y-chromosome sequencing

Does anyone know anything about the website for Full Genomes?

    link removed

I was just reading about this. Looks like a full Y chromosome for $1250.00. Is FTDNA going to offer anything like this? I was also interested in 23andme's exome sequencing but that program has been closed for some time. What new test are going to be offered in the near future?

I have just replied to your similar posting on this forum.

Another item to mention: This company examines the entire Y chromosome which is currently mappable. Scientists have only been able to map out approximately half of the Y chromosome, the other half is so repetitive it has (thus for) proven impossible to map.

Even with only half of the Y Chromosome mapped, current estimates indicate a SNP can be expected roughly every Century.

Lots of folks are doing FG but the FG may be in search for a replacement lab for Beijing Genomics.

FG will be my next Y test.

I rather doubt FTDNA will do a full Y.

Correct me if I am wrong but I have read that FTDNA has discontinued their "walk through the Y". In the email the persons funds were returned. But the email also mentioned that it will be replaced with something better. No time frames were mentioned.

For new users the "walk through the Y" was an expensive Y snp test that looked at a considerable amout of the Y . ($ 900 I think)

Traditionally, FTDNA has unveiled new products & services during their annual Project Administrators Conference, held every year around Veteran's Day Weekend.

It would not surprise me if they announce some new product at this year's conference (being held Nov 9-10). We should also hear news about FTDNA's acquisition of Arpeggi and how this acquisition will help FTDNA.

They also typically have taken questions from conference attendees and I am fairly sure the issue regarding Thomas Krahn may well come up. However, I do expect FTDNA probably will not give any reply to this issue.
