  • mtDNA C Native american?

    I'v been tested for my dna my y-dna is I from spain my mtdna is C on both my parents side are traced back to new mexico, I'm having trouble finding who is native american and from what tribe. and sugestions?

      My Grandmother's family is from New Mexico. Her MtDNA was also Haplogroup C. Her mutations are below. Let me know if your mutations are similar.

            Looks like there's 5 mutations different, indicating no close relationship. I submitted my Grandmother's sample to the New Mexico DNA project http://newmexicodna.bravehost.com/mtdna.html . It would be a good idea to check other Hap C mutations on that site, maybe it will steer you in the direction of the Tribe. Also, try http://www.tracegenetics.com/services_gene.html . They have the largest database of Native American MtDNA sequences around. They may be able to help you.
