  • Gedmatch - Cousin Match For Parents

    i entered my dad's DNA info and my DNA info into Gedmatch. when i ran my dad's info into "cousin test for parents" his was 'zero', meaning his parents were not cousins. my dad is polish on both sides and my mom was ukrainian on both sides. looking at the info below, how many generations back do my parents probably share a common ancestor?
    Here are my results from Gedmatch "cousin test for parents"

    Chromosome= 11, Segment Start= 100664633, Segment End= 102734320, SNPs= 800, cM= 1.23
    Chromosome= 15, Segment Start= 45922856, Segment End= 48107970, SNPs= 701, cM= 1.76
    Largest individual segment of SNPs with greater than 500 matches: 800

    Total autosomal SNPs in segments with greater than 500 matches: 1501

    Largest Single-Block Genetic Distance = 1.7565 cM
    Total Genetic Distance = 2.9905 cM
    Interpreting your results:

    I haven't analyzed enough data to make firm predictions about cousin relationships, but here are some guidelines based on my observations for Total genetic distance cM values:

    Sibling 2350 cM
    Half Sibling 1600 cM
    First Cousin 800 cM
    Second Cousin 200 cM
    Third Cousin 100 cM
    Fourth Cousin 50 cM
    Fifth Cousin 25 cM

    Generally, when the Largest Single-Block Genetic Distance is less than 1, it can be assumed that no relationship exists. If the Largest Single-Block Genetic Distance is greater than 10, then the relationship is probably within the past few generations.

    Just curious where you got the above info. Any cousin beyond third really can not be predicted reliably. It more like 4th-15th cousin.

    I would say any Single-Block Genetic Distance is less than 8 cMs is more likely not a relationship. If the Largest Single-Block Genetic Distance is greater than 10, then the relationship is probably within the past 15 or so generations.
