The only thing harder for me to understand than DNA, is this website. I went to the YDNA tab and scrolled down to Matches Maps. It shows a map of the earth and a Red marker and an Orange Marker on England. If I look at the markers it shows peoples names and email addresses. THe red marker says "exact match" and the Orange marker says "one step match". Can I assume that my ancestors are from England ? Are these people from England and are they my cousins ? I sent them both an email asking for any explanation I could get. My family tree information on goes back to about 3 or 4 generations . As far as good paper records anyway.

The answer is probably not. A 12 marker match is not sufficient to conclude much of anything. If there were an abundance of matches from a particular country this may hint of an ancestry from that country.Are these people from England and are they my cousins ? -

Oh sorry. In your opening post you dint mention it was a 37 marker match so I assumed 12 markers which is what most people get. Still a 37 marker match can disapper at higher marker levels but it is a good start. My y map page is blank because I have no matches.
Now the fun to figure out a relationship. I had a fairly large family finder match 30cM in Australia . She was mostly of UK heritage and since I am mostly French it was impossible to pinpoint - but good luck!Comment
