Well, it at least got my general ancestry right at the one population estimate, although with not very good resolution. Sardinian is first, with 5.179973, and South European, with 6.710464, is second. Both numbers indicate a not very good probability though.

For the 4 population estimates, the results are not very satisfying or realistic, given my known ancestry: the first given is Georgian + Saudi + South_European + Utahn_Whites @ 1.500836. Unless this is talking about very deep ancestry, it's not even close to being a very plausible result for me.

I just noticed that gedmatch includes this note for the calculator, perhaps written by the developer: "Results are only meaningful for persons who have mostly African ancestry with some Eurasian admixture." Basically, this is not meant to be used for those with no African ancestry. So any results it gives to those with European and little or no African ancestry will be unreliable and probably not accurate, as in my case.

I am truly perplexed by this thread and who the original poster is.

The original poster, 1798, is vehemently opposed to the idea that there's any correlation between DNA and languages. That's not such a controversial proposition and there have been several important population genetics studies recently published which report on such correlations. Or course, 1798 is very upset by these studies, especially one that makes a good case for a link between R1b and the origin of Indo-European languages.

Yet he's started a thread about a new gedmatch admixture calculator which does exactly what he denies - analyzes DNA results and then gives a percentage for the language groups that correlate with the results!

I wonder what his motivation for starting this thread is. Has he changed his mind and now believes that there is something to the correlation of DNA and language groups? Or is he just mindlessly trying all the calculators with no regard to how they actually relate to his or others' ancestry?
