That strict position is probably close to the perspective of most Christians before the scientific revolution, but had its modern roots in the Seventh Day Adventists, based on the visions of Mary Baker Eddy in the 19th century.

Late to the party but Mary Baker Eddy was the founder of the Christian Science church. One of the founders of the Seventh-Day Adventist church was Ellen G White whose visions were and are still used for guidance.
