There are a lot of events going on in Ireland at present to commemorate the Battle of Clontarf. Brian Boru died on the 23 of April 1014. He was the son of Cinneide Mac Lorcan and some people believe that JFK was a descendant of Brian.

I feel a special link to Brian Boru since my son and husband are tested as R-L226 Irish III, and many of the surnames found among carriers, can be traced back to Dal gCais surnames linked to Brian Boru:

My husband and son are descended from Thomas Frawley, b. 1821 in Rathkeale, Limerick Ireland and his wife was Honora Hogan, b. 1826 also in Limerick, and she was the daughter of Michael Hogan. Hogan is one of the main surnames linked with Brian Boru and L226:

Hogan are descendants from Cosgrach, an uncle of Brian Boru

We'll try to make a toast on April 23rd and commemorate a possible distant Y ancestor, Brian Boru & the Battle of Clontarf. 23 April 1014-23 April 2014.

As near as I can tell from my brother's YDNA test at 67, I really need to check out SNP L266 for the Irish III and see if he fits the bloodline that that seems to be arising. All most everyone of his matches (4 or high) have that SNP. Currently he's an R-M269. Is it necessary to do just the one SNP or are there any others that might be suitable for? Any suggestions?

If you check out those at ysearch.org who match at 57/67 range of your brother's markers they should all be L266.
I don't think you need to test for this marker.Look for one that is downstream.

My son's match list was a pretty good predictor for his L226: 9 of his 13 67-marker matches are snp tested to L226. My grandfather is an L21 orphan, not a good fit for anything past DF13, and only a couple of his 10 or so 67 marker matches are tested to L21. Nothing further.

You can also try the L-21 predictor tool. My son get's this as his number 1 result:
L226 90% Probability of testing positive w/genetic distance of 6
