  • uploading raw dna from ancestry to FTDNA

I opened an account and tried to submit my results from Ancestry. FTDNA seems unable to accept the zip file. Is there a way around this issue?

I have tried many times to upload my Mothers DNA from Ancestry but it will not take it. I have downloaded it from Ancestry multiple times, used Mapmy app, tried unzipping it ect.. it just won't work. I tested with FTDNA and would like to have hers on here.

MichaelWilbanks, unless someone else comes up with a transfer solution, you might consider having your mother (if she is still willing & able) do the Family Finder test here at FTDNA, vs. transferring. There is a sale on now, for $59 + shipping & handling. You will then get a full list of her matches, including the more distant cousins over 4th cousin level. Transfers from Ancestry (if from the version 2 of their DNA test) do not have enough overlapping SNPs with FTDNA's FF test to show all the matches, but will show the closer ones (4th and lower, if I recall correctly).

Edited to add: Today's blog post by Roberta Estes covers transfers to and from FTDNA. This is the pertinent part about transfers FROM Ancestry TO FTDNA:
However, the Ancestry V2 kit is only partially compatible, meaning that you will only receive 20-25% of the matches by transferring a V2 test that you would receive if you tested at Family Tree DNA. Ancestry changed their chip in May of 2016.

Well, they've corrected the problem so uploading happens successfully but it's taking an awfully long time to process it. 3 weeks I've waited and still no Family Finder results. I emailed and they said IT was "behind" on these. Anyone else having this problem?

Now 4 weeks and I’ve received nothing from this transaction that they keep stressing is a “free” offer. All I know is - they got my “free” DNA data for their database, I’ve got zip.
How can this now be an “IT” issue? They presumably solved the file upload problem. Advertising for the free autosomal upload brags how you will “instantly” see Family Finder matches.

Is anyone else seeing this sort of lengthy delay with autosomal uploads?

Yeah, over 8 weeks - FF tests done at FT, not uploads, but the reason they are not posting results may (or may not, who knows?) be the same. They told me weeks ago that the samples were okay and the lab work finished. See the thread "Current FF batch #?"

I uploaded my Ancestry raw DNA file March 9 and I am still in pending mode for results. I have contacted FTDNA 4 times now. Twice by chat and twice by email. All saying the same thing. It's an IT issue and to sit tight. I'm not happy.
