In the past, the only way I knew results were in was the same as you - checking the account to see if results were in.

At least you got your results within the original expected date range. That's a good thing.
They are the ones who said, "You will also be sent additional notices as your test results are posted." Other companies have sent me email notifications so I assumed they would to. Maybe they mean something else by "notices".

I checked my email archives again, using different search terms, and found emails for Big Y results being ready/uploaded. But nothing turned up for other tests, whether other Y-DNA tests, mtDNA, or Family Finder. They may be notifying people for other tests, but it seems not in the period of time I have ordered tests.

I received a message earlier this month that one of my project members had received Big Y results.

Still haven't got an email stating my test was done even though I've seen able to access the results since Feb 2. If I didn't check the site daily I wouldn't even know.

If they have so much business that it takes them this long and have these kinds of setbacks then they can afford to hire more staff and expand their lab. This is kind of ridiculous. I got Ancestry and 23andMe results in under 2 weeks.
For one thing, Y-DNA (and mtDNA) tests take longer to process than autosomal tests, as they are more complex tests.
For another, there can be delays in processing tests, for various reasons; among these are:
    • Insufficient sample
    • Sample that does not pass quality control, and needs to start process over
    • Lab delay (due to equipment failure, personnel shortage, large quantity due to holiday sales, etc.)
FTDNA has also suffered from poor communication with customers. Perhaps with the new owner (myDNA) some of these issues may improve.

You can check the "After I return the kit, how long will results take?" page in the FTDNA Learning Center to see if there are delays for any type of test. Currently that page shows that for Y-DNA (excluding Big Y), results are taking 7-9 weeks. In your case, that could be between 1 Feb. and 15 Feb. 2021. The date a sample is batched does not necessarily mean that the lab has started processing the test on that day, although it should be started then or shortly afterward. The same page in the Learning Center shows that Y-DNA tests (except for Big Y) usually take 3 to 6 weeks.

You may want to view the FTDNA Webinar "The Ideal Life of a Family Tree DNA Kit," from 2015. The part where a kit reaches the lab starts at 20:21.

Some questions about the test process are answered on the Learning Center page "FTDNA Test Process."

My batch # 1147. No estimated date in awaiting-results page. Ordered 26 Nov 2020 as upgrade from BigY500. No new test kit received so I think they are using the many years old sample. Is this normal? If you are in batch 1147 do you have some estimated date range?

    Closing in on 4 months.
I'm right there with you, Thor. Waiting on my Big Y-700 results from batch 1111 to come through. I've seen several others in much later batches go through recently so I'm still holding out hope that it won't be too much longer. My expected date is now 11/30/2020 - 12/14/2020.
