  • SNP Packs: Waste of waiting time?

According to what I am reading it seems that it would be a waste to order the SNP Pack as many folks here seem to have been forced to sit and stew awaiting results. Would this be a fair statement?

The horror stories seem to indicate a fall to a real low in customer service.

    Cheers

I've ordered a single SNP and SNP panel and got my results in under 8 weeks. Quite happy, here. The only complaint is the status stays at "pending" until it is done and you have results. The messaging around test result predictions and delays is inconsistent and sometimes at odds depending on where you look. Personally, I think FTDNA has reached that point where the business is hitting serious growing pains. But from the description provided by Daren, once they get some planned changes in place, results will come quicker in general against a greater array of products. I hope they succeed before the holiday rush. The company provides a nice product.

Thank you so much for stopping and for sharing your experience. I ordered my YDNA 67 back in 2011, and as I remember, that came back very quickly from the day of mailing the kit back Im certain it was no more then 4-5 or 5-6 months. And here you ordered only one.

I hate to think how long the 95 SNP Pack would take to return, at least at this time. Maybe the future will bring better software system and the hiring of more lab techs forums.

      Thanks Again!!!

I had ordered the R-Z253 pack for my father's existing kit this past January 23. At that time, his terminal SNP was Z253, and I knew he was negative for a couple of branches below that, from Geno 2.0 results and one other SNP test.

The Z253 pack was batched on Jan. 29, but didn't show an expected date.

The results came in on Mar. 27. Initial results were incorrect: the new reported SNP was in the wrong branch under Z253, known from prior SNP testing and also project admin advice. But there were others with results like that, and the error was corrected within a few days. Since that time, I believe there were no more glitches with that pack.

The Z253 pack covered at least 64 SNPs under Z253, and was completed within a month.

My SNP panel was the Z253 pack. Batched early May, results first week of July. I know there was some issue in showing results at that time period. But really, no real complaints. This particular panel had expanded right around when I batched, so I don't know if that contributed. I did get the expanded test.

It is the inconsistency in messaging that is most annoying, no so much any delay.

FTDNA comes in for many brickbats and many probably deserved but I'd like to say that I ordered a Big Y on 16 Jun and results were estimated to be in on 26 Aug. They arrived on 20 Jul.

My feeling is that it is the inconsistencies and communication that is the biggest bugbear. At the heart of everything though may be that we just do not fathom how they operate at the lab. Perhaps they should produce a video showing an order through from ordering to final results, explaining what can affect/delay the process at each stage?

Yes, the lack of communications, and the inconsistencies are getting old fast - have been for some time now. Let's hope the coming changes will alleviate some problems.

I recently posted in another thread about an FTDNA video that shows the testing process:
Here's a YouTube video of an FTDNA webinar from Feb. 2015, entitled “The Ideal Life of a Family Tree DNA Kit.” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euKs85zhMwk)
Not sure if it directly addresses what things might cause delays, but otherwise it may answer some questions for you.

I ordered one snp test for an existing kit. It was batched 4/15 and results came yesterday 7/22. That was 14 weeks. Certainly glad the results finally came in but that is too long to wait for one snp.

My Z253 pack was batched on the 25th Feb and the results have been "pending" ever since. 17 weeks seems to be an excessive and inexcusably long wait with no progress reports from FTDNA.

Can you please send me a Private Message with your kit number and a contact email and I can have the lab take a look and see what may be going on.

                        Oh so long waiting!

I ordered a kit on 8th May 2015 with great excitement and interest. This morning I see on the site that my results for Batch 620 has been changed, once again, to 26th August. I would like to order further packs, but am thinking that perhaps I should try one of the other suppliers? Any suggestions?

I ordered U106 SNP and results posted in 7 days. Awaiting Z156 for 5 days so far, will post when those are done.

Sorry, where I had 4-5 5-6 waiting period, I meant weeks, not months.

                              Ordered Z-156 on 7/17, batched 7/22, results 8/6.

                              Excellent turn-around again.
