  • Batch 620 Big Y: volume delay or bad spit?

    My Big Y was delayed:

"Results for your Big Y testing have been delayed. We have updated your predicted completion date, and action by you is not usually required. Note that predicted dates are an estimate and subject to lab volume and quality control."

Anyway to tell if it failed quality and they need new spit or if it's delay due to high volume?

I guess I can call, cause I don't wait any longer than needed if FTDNA needs more spit.

You're not an exception. I bought a 67 marker upgrade on May 1st, batched on May 6th with results due June 17th-July 1st, a couple of days later the results window was delayed to July 22nd-August 5th, been waiting (and still am) ever since. To be frank, it's kind of stupid to advertise big sales when they can't be counted on to deliver on time.

Stupid for FTDNA's reputation. Apparently not stupid enough to out weigh dollars coming in.

Agreed. I wonder how long a company can survive with a bad reputation. One thing is for sure, the D in FTDNA must stand for "Delays".

I wonder what would happen to our "hobby" if we had the demise of FTDNA? The company had better get its act together because nothing else out there can completely replace it.

Which is probably why FTDNA is getting away with the all the delays. If FTDNA had a comparable competitor in this space, these delay issues would have been solved long ago.

If I don't get my results in a few months I'll call my credit card company and get my money back. FTDNA can then explain to my credit card company why it takes more than 3 months to provide the advertised service.

If everyone waiting longer than 3 months got their money back from the credit card company then well FTDNA would resolve all these delays issues quickly.

100% ACK, exactly that is the reason monopolists are not liked.

In an ideal world everybody would do so and the world would be a better place!
