For any DNA testing, we can ordinarily order, the testing would not see differences between identical twins.

The test reports for identical twins might not be identical on every single position for some types of tests, but it would be due to DNA test technology limitations that possibly different positions are not read for each twin. (The same situation if one person submitted themselves to testing twice, there might be a couple of differences between the tests.)

    Good to know.

No, he and I are not identical twins, however we do have sisters who are identical twins. I should test them and get a better idea of the similarities to expect (and not expect) with siblings. lol That will be the day I have nothing to do and just want to play around.

Thanks for confirming our results are "normal/expected".

If you are not identical twins, then as a layman I think that in the ideal world 50% would be the number. However, not on close or immediate matches!

Just checked his again. The main page shows "Awaiting results" and when I click that there are new dates indicating 6/24 - 7/8 for FF and August dates for the Y67. However, if I click on "My FTDNA" on the top, drop down to FF, then matches, the matches are there. Obviously there are problems and perhaps they are working on the system right now, making part of it up and part down.

I do find it odd that I match my brother at over 2800 cM, yet 1/2 of my matches don't match him and 1/2 of his matches don't match me. Is that normal?

As a project administrator, I am also quite disturbed by the way that test results come, go, then eventually come back again--all without any notification either to the project member or to the administrator.

At the very least, the customer's account should display a message in bold red lettering:

"Your results for this test have been temporarily withdrawn for further quality assurance; they will return soon."

Okay, now I'm grumbling. My brother's results have been up and down. This morning they were there. I just logged in and poof they are gone again, but this time there are new dates for when "the results" will be completed. huh? New dates for everything. My question: I downloaded his match list days ago. Is that list not accurate?

I really had great luck for the past 3-4 years of dealing with FTDNA-I have encouraged many many people to test with them. BUT now for over 5 days I am having problems just accessing my kits so yep, this is a gripe. A project has come to a complete halt.......

Glad you had good experiences! Mine have been mostly good. My biggest issue has been the postal service delays. I also have ONE mtDNA kit that is taking FOREVER (well, I am impatient but delayed many times). Overall, my experience has been good, but I am getting weary with that one kit!

    No Gripes from me, yet

I have two kits "in process". One a Family Finder and Y67; the other a Y67. Both mailed to FTDNA on April 24, one from LA, the other Dallas. Both were acknowledged as received on May 7 and assigned Batch 621 with same dates for the Y67 test of 6-17 to 7-1; the FF expected 5-27 to 6-10. My Origins results show up on the FF test IF I go out specifically to look for them, as in no notification or any other indication they are there. Yesterday, 5/31, there was 1 match showing up on the FF match list, today it is not there. I'm not sure if the My Origins is complete due to the main page not indicating results are there, but it seems early, so no gripes here, yet.

That's just an excuse FTDNA's apologists were using for a while to explain slow processing times. They were essentially blaming the customer by saying tests were failing due to poor sample quality.

I don't think there are very many people who still believe that to be the case.

I don't think it has much to do with scraping. On my grandfather's kit:

    37 markers: 14 days
    37 to 67 markers: 21 days
    DF13 snp: 28 days
    DF41 snp: 137 days
    FGC5496 snp: 118 days
    CTS1751 snp: 8 days
    mtDNA Plus: 36 days

The DF41 and FGC5496 snp's were purchased during holiday sales and though FTDNA kept saying that the tests were failing, I think that, in fact, the batch kept getting delayed because they were too swamped. It certainly couldn't have been an issue of scraping, or the sample, since some tests came in way fast while others lagged.

    lucky you !!

There seems to be no patterns here- y from Batches before 616 are still waiting.

    Bizarre

Hope you find lots of good matches

That is a really good piece of news. Thank you for sharing!

If you know, can you tell us whether your matches (both mtDNA and Y-DNA) can see you as matching them?
