  • Batch 616 Y-111 Results Posted

The upgrade results only took 2 weeks from date of order. Now, that was a big surprise given how it took 2.5 months (including mailing) for the earlier Y-67 results.

I also got a single SNP order in Batch 610 earlier this week. That took about a month.

I bet they ran the Y111 while doing the Y67, and simply "unlocked" your results.

      Unlock

That is my guess too - that they simply unlocked. However, maybe they had my DNA out for the concurrent single SNP test and just decided to run it through the STR machine too.
Anyway, it was fast. What is interesting is that my STRs above 67 don't seem to have mutated as much away from my cousins as the lower ones have. Maybe, that is due to the ones selected by FTDNA to test. I still don't really have any close matches.

They only test what is ordered.

I ordered upgrading to 67 markers on 22 april and at 2 may I received my results. I hope FTDNA will keep this tendency.

I ordered upgrading to 111 markers on 5th April.
Now I get delay. Batch 617.
            Expected 06/17/2015 - 07/01/2015.
Results for your Y-DNA testing have been delayed. We have updated your predicted completion date, and action by you is not usually required. Note that predicted dates are an estimate and subject to lab volume and quality control.

Yes, that is generally true. However, sometimes, they do run additional tests in the quality control phase.

Also, I am not sure about that, but I think they used to run additional panels for some haplogroup predictions.

You're thinking of a backbone SNP test, they do that when they can't predict the haplogroup. But in that case it will show on your order page. Whatever is tested would show there.

There is no way they would test markers to 111 for free just in case someone would order them later.
