The majority of the world says/writes it as the day first, then month.
I believe my indication was that people I write to from all over the world use that. It's also possible when I translate their messages in my mind that I translate it into American or should I say U.S.A language in my mind.

So, the indication is that DMY/MDY is ambiguous which I agree. However, note that the increasing usage is YMD with the M coming before the D a recognition that the month before the day makes more sense.
And as noted, it's mainly used with computers because as I mentioned before, it's only way to get folder/file names by date in chronological order. Apart from that - again - as someone who lived in England for 8 years (and left in 2013 so it's not like this is outdated info), I can assure you that the standard format for dates, whether numerical, written, spoken, etc is day, month, year - not month, day, year.

      • Way off topic

Unlike humans, primitive, early software was unable to sort by date unless some help was provided like 2015-01-25 format. Software is way smarter nowadays, but the format 2015-01-25 stayed with us. Kind of stupid that we (humans) have to add a zero, to accommodate some software needs...

The format used in European (including England) writing was the 25th day of January in the year of our Lord 2015. It originated in medieval Latin (classical Latin dates were... different...), and was mimicked by other languages. That got shortened in various languages in a variety of ways, for example to 25 I 2015 (where I is a Roman numeral, sometimes, also i, and even j). Also when the year was not important, the most common short form was the 25th day of January. And probably all readers here know that 10er was an abbreviation for... December, and not October (8er)...

If anyone knows the origins of writing month before the day number, may be we could all learn.

        W.

        P.S.
Let's not talk about the year. Please. Suffice to say that in many European countries and languages regnal years were sometimes used.

        • Way off topic - USA

          Fourth of July
          4th of July

Sure, at the top right July 4. 1776.

          At the back:
          Original Declaration of Independence
          dated 4th July 1776

          W.

          P.S.
The inscriptions are on the real one, not from National Treasure

That's only an opinion of yours and not substantiated by any means.

            • Back to the topic

It's now been six days since there have been any reports of new FF results: 2 reports of batch 602 on the 20th and one for 603 on the 19th. So - Will there be new reports today and tomorrow?

Yep, my opinion and as the old country song goes "that's my story and I'm sticking with it".

Late to the conversation but holy cow, yes! Throw Danish into the mix. I've been sitting here for 10 minutes trying to imagine a situation in which someone would ever say the equivalent of April 21st in Danish. Nope. Never. When asked what the date is or when one's birthday is one always responds with the equivalent of the 21st of April (d. 21. april). Unless there is some weird pocket of dialect somewhere in the country were the opposite is the norm I can't ever imagine a Dane saying it.

However, when one asks a Dane in English depending on which language tradition they know best (British, Canadian, American, etc.) they'll offer up the version they know and expect the recipient to understand. My Danish host family uses the 21st of April version in English, though.

Back to the original topic, sort of ... my dad's FF finally came in after 7 weeks. Unfortunately, my full mtDNA ordered September 26th (not plated until October 20th though - discovered 'accidentally' in a conversation with a customer service rep) has been pushed back 4 times now, I think. I've actually lost count. No clue when it will be complete but I'm not expecting it within the new estimated date range in February.

                    • Any new Family Finder results?

None of my kits have received a new FF match since 20th Jan, which is nine days ago now. I thought there'd be a batch coming out yesterday? My Batch 602 result came through on the 20th and so did some from Batch 603 so I guess the rest of Batch 603 was due this week or maybe some of Batch 604. Has anyone had new Family Finder results in the past week?

                      • I've received a few new matches dated the 27th.

My FF test is in batch 603, and my results have not come in yet.

Three kits I have checked today, were having new matches from the 27th (yesterday). These were either transfers or people new to FTDNA, since neither Y-DNA nor mtDNA tests were listed for any of them.

OK, I understand that there was a problem with suppliers.
OK, I understand that caused delays.
OK, I understand That caused a backlog.

What I don't understand is that in the following month they had a promotion to boost demand. Doesn't the Marketing guy talk to the Lab people? Weren't the delays and backlog discussed at Board level? Was the Marketing guy kept in the dark?

A bit of openness and corporate governance would help, perhaps?

So today is the first day of their expected results time frame!! Who's taking bets that I'll get them today!!!!

I got 3 matches on the 27th Jan, seems to be from results..

                                Dna

I'd imagine the results are from people just doing the Family Finder test too rather than just transfers....
