I wanted to trust what their customer service staff was saying, but I am afraid we need outside assistance.

Anyway, I am looking at the waiting time like this- researching our family tree (working with the paper trail) to a point that a DNA test could be used on a living person - many years
- getting funds for testing - many months
- convincing the desired tester to participate - weeks, months, sometimes years (Since we started testing in 2010, I am still looking for testers from some geographical areas and family branches. And from some areas or branches I would take anybody!)
- (entirely optional
) waiting for a sale here - weeks to months
- waiting for the tester to complete the testing - days, weeks, months (I had a tester who was genuinely very keen on providing the samples, and completed testing only after three (3) months)
- USPS trucking the samples - no comment
- actual testing - one to three months, so in reality peanuts...

I am quickly joining the ranks of the folks who are dismayed at how FTDNA conducts business. Nothing I have read or heard prepared me for the wait that I am currently undergoing. I am trying to get information to settle an issue on my paternal side. My dad is in his 80's and he is very curious to see what I can find. I'm not sure he is going to live long enough at this rate.
I have 1-12 complete and 61-67. So what I have so far at least tells me I'm homo sapien. These types of tests should be fun, enjoyable, but the waiting is making it very frustrating. I'm sure I'm like many of you, I have spent hours researching my family history, looking for records and information. At times is has been difficult, but nothing that I have done when it comes to my family research has ever made me angry, until now.
I'm still here waiting, a very unhappy customer.

By the way, I do not like to wait either.
I have found only one way of alleviating my pain of waiting: order upfront = do not do upgrades. I cannot imagine ordering Y-37, waiting, then ordering Y-67 and waiting again.
The same with mtDNA. No upgrades.

testing
From all my reading of these forums, sometime back in October the system on how the batches are process went down. At least with the Y-DNA tests. I still get regular updates on matches for Family Finder but, haven't received Y-DNA matches for months. I upgraded to Y67 and a full MtDNA about 2 weeks ago and the results page keeps clicking off weeks, now down to 3-5 weeks from 6-8. Hope it doesn't stall at 1-3 weeks I am batch 602.

The customer service department is non-responsive. I have sent 3 or 4 questions through their web-contact form over the last two months. 2 messages were about delays in testing and 2 were about issues with their website acting strange. I received one "form letter" in return (that other people have posted on here) that they were short of supplies for the ytests, blah blah blah. I have not received ANY responses to my other questions! We have ordered a total of 4 tests since October and have only received the results for one despite having good dna samples. I am reading that other people in later batches have already received results for things that we are still waiting for. Half the time when I try to call they are CLOSED or the line is busy all day.
Can anyone recommend a phone number or the name of a contact outside the Customer Service Dept? (Besides the Better Business Bureau!)Last edited by Howtree; 11 January 2015, 09:21 AM.
