  • Recent rework of Big-Y Data - dissapointing

Since the big-Y data has recently been reworked I have gone from hundreds of matches to not even one. I don't even have a copy of the old data to use to check my own contacts.

Is anyone else having this type of issue?

How can you make a decision about the rework when it hasn't finished?

Most of the hundreds of BigY matches that you had were people with a common ancestor from about more than 4300 years ago. They now limit the matches to people that have 30 or fewer non-matching variants with you. Those matches, when they exist, are people that have a common ancestor with you from within about the past 4300 years.

The fewer matches allows for more privacy and focuses on people with a common ancestor from a more recent time period. If you want to see surnames and most distant ancestor of people in SNPs upstream from your terminal SNP you can look at the Y-DNA report of the projects that you are in.
