  • Uploading raw data from 23andMe V5

    Hi,

When are you going to be able to process uploading of raw data format 23andMe© V5? Many thanks

I don't see it happening at all. 23andmeV5 chip only shares around 160,000 SNPs out of the 700,000 FTDNA tests.
There is too big of a difference between them to accurately compare

Even GEDmatch set up a new data base for 23andMe V5.

I fear that even at 23 they are getting a touch wonky matching V5 testers to their V4 and V3 testers.

Understandable if they are just relying on comparing the shared SNPs between the Versions
V5 does not even share many SNPs with their previous versions

I am a v2 and saw a chart recently the I have less than 100,000 SNPs in common with v5. I still get matches, so they must be imputing.

Ah, imputing. Roberta Estes' most recent post on it was "Imputation Analysis Utilizing Promethease," but has links in the first paragraph to her other two posts on imputation. Here are some relevant comments from the above post (my bolding):

As related to genetic genealogy, I don’t think imputation and genetic genealogy are good bedfellows. DNA.Land’s matching was even worse when it was initially introduced, which is one reason I’ve waited so long to upload and write about the service.

Unfortunately, with Illumina obsoleting the OmniExpress chip, we’re not going to have a choice, sooner than later. All vendors who utilized the OmniExpress chip are being forced off, either onto the GSA chip or to an Exome or full sequence chip. The cost of sequencing for anything other than the GSA chip is simply more than the genetic genealogy market will stand, not to mention even larger compatibility issues. My Genos Exome test cost $499 just a few months ago and still sells for that price today.

The good news is that utilizing imputation, we will still receive matches, just less accurate matches when comparing the new chip to older versions, and when using imputation.

New testers will never know the difference. Testers not paying close attention won’t notice or won’t realize either. That leaves the rest of us “old timers” who want increased accuracy and specification, not less, flapping in the wind along with the vendors who don’t sell our test results into the medical arena and have no reason to move to the new GSA platform other than Illumina obsoleting the OmniExpress chip.

              Like I said, thanks Illumina.

                I've just converted V5 to V4 with

First converted to genome.db than back to 23andme. upload successfull

Believe above imputes values, personally I think it would be just be better to spend the $79 for Family Finder and receive the actual tested values (approximately 700000 tested and verified SNPs) vs imputed ones (up to 540000 imputed SNPS)

In a future article, I’ll be writing about the process of uploading files to DNA.Land and the user experience, but in this article, I want to discuss only one topic, and that’s the results of imput…

                    Raw data

Raw data from the 23andme v5 chip is unsupported by many tools. Some of them that produce reports from this version of the chip are, Promethease and Xcode Life
