New file (downloadable Raw Data from FTDNA on a transfer) will contain less SNPs then your original, Will only contain the SNPs used by FTDNA. Less accurate then your original

I downloaded the convert tool to fix the problem with the AncestryDNA file.

I compared the template with my Ancestrydna.txt file.

Why would my Dna file appear to be short by 18,532 SNP's?

The template file is 668,961 lines, my file is 650,419 lines. Subtracting the first 19 comment lines, that gives 668,942 SNPs in the template file and 65,410 SNPs in my text file.

Is this an error in processing by the Ancestry lab that shorted me 18,532 SNP's or is my actual dna missing a few strands or something?

How will this affect uploading to FTDNA?

Ancestry changed their Raw Data file omitting some SNPs, whether or not this is due to a new testing chip version or not, no one knows for sure.
This affects how FTDNA recognizes the file. FTDNA upload only will accept the V1 and original V2 Versions of Ancestry.
The Template (fix) converts these smaller ancestry files into the format of the original Ancestry V2 file, adding the missing SNPs as no calls.
Note, FTDNA only uses around 426,923 SNP out of file (only the ones that FTDNA tests in their FamilyFinder test)
All in All there are only about 5000 less SNP in the latest Ancestry Raw Data over the original AncestryV2 format that FTDNA uses. There will not be any noticeable difference on FTDNA end.

Can not upload 23andMe or Ancestry DNA

Hello, I see that this issue is on going. But I am hoping someone knows when it will be fixed. It will not let me upload my 23andMe data or my ancestry data. Please help!

V5 23andMe may never be accepted. You need to get Ancestry to stop changing the format of their data.

Seems everyone gets mad at FTDNA when it isn't FTDNA that is making changes. Why not test at FTDNA and then transfer your data to 23andMe and Ancestry. Oh yes, they don't accept transfers. So get mad at them.

If you do use the tool, please respond in here and let others know if it works or not. So far in my testing its working 100%, but the more people that try it the more we will know if this is a solution until FTDNA resolves it themselves.

Anyone trying to transfer Ancestry's new format would get many more matches if they bought a test from FTDNA, based on what I have seen from the recent transfers into my projects.

Ancestry doesn't care about fixing anything.

If they cared about DNA testers they would have a chromosome browser.

I tested first at FTDNA then at Ancestry.

At GEDmatch FTDNA kit says:

Number of SNPs utilized by GEDmatch template = 708934

Kit Tnnnnnn has approximately 66140 total matches with other kits.
Of these matches there are 13435 >= 7cM and 52705 < 7cM.

At GEDmatch Ancestry kit says:

Number of SNPs utilized by GEDmatch template = 460449

Kit Annnnnn has approximately 36269 total matches with other kits.
Of these matches there are 7995 >= 7cM and 28274 < 7cM.

Big difference with number of SNPs used and number of matches >= 7cM.

The main plus for Ancestry is the size of their tested database.

My top DNA match at FTDNA is my number 17 match at Ancestry.

Bad news is that not one of my top 16 at Ancestry is at GEDmatch.

The main minus for Ancestry is the fact you must pay a subscription fee to see all of the information about your matches. You can buy several Family Finder kits for the cost of their annual subscription. And you have to use their contact system to try to reach your matches because Ancestry doesn't provide their email addresses.
