  • MTDNA New Match

Had an email to say new relative found but nothing appears - all match dates are from April

    New Relative Found!

We found 1 new mtFull Sequence match(es) for Simon McIntyre .

    Bizarre

I think these are just delayed e-mails! I got a BUNCH today. But... they are just me, my kids, and my dad... all of which I knew already and had already linked together. My dad's was the last to come back, and that one came back April 30th. The other e-mails for my kids tests were matches from weeks before that! Too bad, I was ALMOST excited for a minute ("almost" - because they said they were either immediate or close matches... I don't want any unexpected children/siblings popping up! LOL)

If it's any consolation, all of my mtDNA matches have simply disappeared.

It appears the FTDNA's notification system hasn't been sending anything out since around April 23rd. Overnight I received a ton on emails about project matches, new results, and new orders.

I received an email about a new mtdna match; and after I logged in it was also listed in my notifications tab; yet when it finally loaded (after reloading itself several times) it came back with No matches...

Very often that is caused by the notifications being sent after matches were already added. Consequently, the date automatically selected is (at least) one day off.

I manually input the date that is at least one day earlier (and I usually use the date that is exactly one month earlier, as it is easy to calculate and enter).

                No Emails, but dashboard notifications

I have received two separate dashboard notifications stating I have 3 new mtDNA matches. But, when I view all the matches, there is nothing new -- only the initial matches noted after my results were posted.

Is this a bug, or do I have 3 new matches that are on the way to being posted??

It looks like there is a general problem with the notifications (e-mails and web).

Possibly FTDNA backend system just crossed some capacity threshold...

Match notifications have been thoroughly broken for years now.

Just because you receive an email notification doesn't mean you actually have a new match.

Conversely, just because you have not received a notification, don't assume that you have no new matches.

The best way to know for sure if you have new matches is to manually verify by logging in and sorting your match list by "Match Date".
