  • Lots of "new" old matches... Have they changed match display (privacy) settings?

So I noticed that on the kits I manage, there are a bunch (as many as twenty per kit) of Y DNA matches that are new on my match list, but show old 'match dates'.

    Is anyone else experiencing this?

Does this perhaps mean that FTDNA has finally uncoupled the match list from the email notification settings, or have they made some other change that would cause this?

    Can anyone offer some insight?

If it helps, I have not made any changes to my own privacy or notification settings on any of these kits.

I believe the match date is determined by taking the most recent of the dates when the results was determined and has nothing to do when when the match is shown on the match list.

If you and I match and I got my results 1/1/2010 and you got your results 1/1/2013, I believe they would show the match date as 1/1/2013 even if they didn't post the match until today.

I have no idea what FTDNA may have changed that would cause you to suddenly see older matches.

Right. That is also my understanding, which is why I found it curious that I suddenly have a bunch of new people on my lists with match dates as far back as 2012.

No one out there has an explanation? FTDNA, what do you have to say for yourselves?

        Has anyone else experienced this?

          Sarmat,

You would need to send me an email or private message with specific examples and I would be happy to take a look and see what may be going on. I have need seen wide spread reports of this, so I don't know.

Did anything ever come of this investigation?

I get notifications of y-dna matches that DO NOT appear in the match lists.

I get NO notifications of FF matches that DO appear in the match lists.

(Nope... I have not changed any notification options.)

              Nope.

In fairness to Darren, though, I did not PM him directly with specific names. I did, however, email the help desk, but I never heard from them.
