  • myGroups features request and bug report

    Features I'd like to see:
    1. Ability to 'sticky' up to 3 posts preferred, but at least 1 desired
    2. Help for the color-blind: add the ability to change font color as well as background colors (not really a myGroups specific request but so what). We color challenged hominids can interact reasonably well with the non-challenged of our species so long as we have the ability to create contrasts between the letters, symbols or numbers and the backgrounds they are placed upon.
    3. WorldFamilies interface: It does not appear that FTDNA included WorldFamilies in any discussions about the myGroups release (bad form, especially considering how long they've worked together as partners)

    Bugs:
    • WorldFamilies: link on myGroups page takes me to a forum discussion page instead of the homepage, and I have no ability to edit that apparently.
    • Surnames: exactly what is this page supposed to do anyway? Right now it does nothing worth the space it is occupying.
    • Photo Album: creates a ridiculously long post on the activities page when a true album consisting of multiples photos is uploaded, could that be changed to a simple note that an album has been uploaded rather than displaying the entire album? {some users are sure to be uninterested in scrolling through a long album to find a question or informative post}

The feature I'd like to see is the ability to privatize the activity feed in case anything a bit more personal is posted. I'd prefer to keep it within project members, especially since I thought the purpose of this was so that we could ask questions, or post messages and photos but it is for everyone to see even if they are not members? Yet we have the option to hide the Y-DNA and mtDNA results, why not this?

I thought you could do this from the Project Profile page.
"Options": Only members can view posts, photos, and comments.

        A few little problems;

One of my Co Admins is missing from the Administrators list, and has been replaced by Terry Barton, from Worldfamiles.net.
Have checked the old Project Admins section, and my Co Admin is listed with his email address. He doesn't show up on the MyGroups page though.....

The Surname list appears on 2 projects, but not on a 3rd project. More than half the variant surnames in the project do not show up anyway.

Thank you! I was on that page altering the banner yet and saw those check boxes but overlooked it. Thanks again for that!

This was the first thing I noticed, that my co-admin isn't showing up at all. They should've allowed a spot for that as well.

I'm noticing that under my surnames, not all key words there are listed. Either it's using some type of auto spell check or it's not rendering accent marks correctly, which it was before.

                404

The French_Heritage_DNA project has been converted and I received a notification that new posts are available. I clicked the link to view the posts but am only greeted with a 404. The original link is http://www.familytreedna.com/my/noti...amp=1424122690 but redirects to http://www.familytreedna.com/groups/ with the 404.

                  File Attachments?

Did I miss the place to post files and attachments that are NOT photos? I have references such as relationship charts that would be very handy to have available.

Of course I could always convert things to photo format or post a link to a source, but that would be pretty inconvenient for every reference we already have.

                    FTDNA MyGroups suggestions and fixes
                    Public Doc

Based on an idea and doc of Debbie Cruwys Kennett I did create a editable doc and edited it a bit: Feel free to re-edit and share the link.
                    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...it?usp=sharing

I have integrated two ideas from this thread.

                      Regarding Project Transition to myGROUPS

                      Hi,
I have now transitioned two of three geographic projects to myGROUPS. This was an opportunity to update or clarify project goals, membership requirements, and to consider other administrative details/concerns regarding the myGroups transition.

                      1) Our project membership has always been limited to those with ancestry from the geographic region. In the past as we were growing the project, we did not use the "JOIN REQUEST BUTTON" to filter members. I have just added this to the updated projects to assure only qualified members can join. This is important as I have elected to click on ONLY MEMBERS CAN POST / SEE POSTS in the myGROUPS settings.
                      2) I appreciated the generic code of ethics supplied by Janet(? forgive me I forgot the name.I have modified it to fit what I would like to see regarding the code of ethics, activity feed etc.

I need confirmation from FT-DNA that the following two GENERAL statements regarding CODE OF CONDUCT will be supported by FT-DNA:

THE GA HAS THE RIGHT TO REMOVE ANY POSTING/PHOTO/COMMENT THAT DOES NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES POSTED ON THE ACTIVITY FEED.

FAILURE TO ABIDE BY THE CODE OF CONDUCT GUIDELINES WILL RESULT IN YOUR REMOVAL FROM THE PROJECT.

I think these are important. However, I posted a photo of a map of our region. It did not load correctly. However, I see NO WAY TO REMOVE IT. I contacted the FT-DNA group but have not heard back as yet.

I want to go live but guess for now it is safer to deactivate the ACTIVITY FEED until I get these answers and how to's.

Can anyone else provide some guidance?

                      Thanks.
                      KAM

Have you tried loading a different photo? I have no idea if this would work.
