  • Bug: Y-tests offered to females as an upgrade

    An easy improvement should be possible.

    When a female clicks/selects the Upgrade button

    She is first presented with

    Advanced Tests
    Y-STRs, Y-SNPs, X-STR,
    Autosomal STRs

    later, after Buy Now, the selection correctly includes only:
    * Test Type Autosomal
    * Test Type X-STR

    dna,

    That's just the description of the Advanced Tests section -- the Y-DNA tests are not actually offered to females.

    While the description could be coded to not mention Y-DNA tests for female kits, I think IT has much more important projects and bugs to focus on

      Men sometimes cannot order SNP tests

      The much more serious problem is that men sometimes cannot order a SNP test even though they have successfully ordered Y-DNA tests (including SNP tests) in the past. When a man tries to order a SNP test, he may be told to "choose his gender," but no way is offered to do so--nor is there any other way to continue with the order.

      Yesterday, even the phone rep could not place the order, so she had to pass the problem to IT.

        Larry,

        That issue has been reported and we're waiting for it to get assigned to a developer to fix it.

        In the meantime, someone discovered a workaround yesterday:

        Add any SNP from the Haplotree page to the cart, along with the SNP that you want to order, then remove the one you don't want -- you *should* then be able to place the order without getting the gender error.

        Of course, this is certainly not how ordering should be working, and the bug will definitely still get fixed

          Sure, however in this business the presentation layer is quite important.

          The Upgrade page is being updated quite often, so adding a small change is easier, than with pages that are locked at a certain version.

          The Upgrade page already has a built-in logic to display different offers to females and males. Adding possibility to display a different picture for Advanced Tests for females is very likely trivial...
