Now able to upload a gedcom but processing for 2 hours?

    Seems to be broken!

    Family Tree

I uploaded a gedcom before I went to work this morning, and 9 hours later, I still can't access my Family Tree section on FTDNA. When I click the family tree link, it just sits there and does nothing. I can't imagine that my tree would take that long to process.....

It definitely should not be taking anywhere near that long for uploads to process -- mine took less than a minute. I would suggest starting over. Close the tab/window, log back in to your account and try again.

If you run into the same issue the second time, email Customer Support, and attach your GEDCOM file so they can ask IT to check into it.

        Family Tree

Thanks Elise! I've emailed customer support. There must have been a error during the upload of my gedcom. Maybe they can reset things, and I'll try the upload again.....

        Cheers

          Family Tree and Matches

Does anyone know if the matches part of the new family tree only works with family finder results? The reason that I ask is I am not matching my father or my brother on Y-DNA tests when I click on that tab under matches. I have taken Y-111, my father and brother have taken the Y-67. Is this a glitch or am I just not understanding the way that matches work with the family tree.

There seems to be a glitch with the Y-DNA Matches in the Family Tree. I reported this to IT yesterday, so it should be on their to-do list to fix.

                Updates and Feedbacks

Just read the updates and feedbacks section (of course they are 'closed for comments').

NOTHING is said about changing to the 'pedigree' view and simplifying anything. I think the software gurus who were in charge of this had no idea about genealogy and what a researcher needs.

I went back and checked again today and tried to maneuver around the goliath. Totally useless plus it gave me connections saying I had matches to my other trees which I administer.

I see no purpose in this entire mess. We need to see someone's tree in a quick glimpse to see if it is of any help, not a bear that takes an hour to work through.

I don't seem to show any matches on my trees. I have a few confirmed matches, but they don't show as matches on the tree. Unless I'm doing something wrong!

It's closed for comments because it's meant to be an announcements thread that doesn't get cluttered with other posts You can post comments on the other Family Tree threads that already exist.

It's a list of what was done between the beta and the release on Monday -- not what will be done in the future. I've asked for a list of things that will be fixed/updated/changed in the near future as well, so hopefully we'll have that soon.

#1 request....a pedigree view that fits the first several generations on one horizontal line and when hovered over with the mouse will show dates and location....please . If Ancestry.com can do it surely you can

Second that request--Gedmatch does it too.

Another question or two or three...

Suppose you do manage to get a number of your matches correctly positioned in your new tree on FTDNA. In the meantime, you continue your research and add to your "real" tree outside of FTDNA.

What happens when you need to update the old tree that was loaded to FTDNA? Do all of the matches you carefully placed on your FTDNA tree disappear if you upload an updated tree? Are you supposed to add in every new find in both places? Or will the 2 trees merge?

If the 2 trees can't be merged effectively, then it will mean additional manual entry. If the benefit for dropping matches into your tree can't be explained and defined, why would people even want to do that? Just for the pictures?

I guess I am hoping to understand how this tool will eventually make my experience as a researcher a more positive and effective one. What will this tool do when it is functioning at its peak performance and as it is currently envisioned? If I can't see the "map" I may not truly believe there is one. What is the balance between cost in time and effort on my part and the benefit to be derived from it?

I am hopeful things will get better, but am disappointed so far. I would like to see tools that actually help me figure out unknown connections through dna segment matching and triangulation. No matter how "pretty" a tool is, if it doesn't function as expected, it's not likely to see much use.

AngeliaR, I'd not be counting on new gedcoms ever being merged into existing tree, you can't do that with ancestry.com or my heritage either, do you know of any reputable online tree where you can upload a gedcom to an existing tree? I'm guessing best to update both your FTDNA tree and your offline tree if you want to keep both in sync.

Suggestion.... ability to download FTDNA Family Tree. ( I can't see anyway of doing this at the moment)

+1 for the suggestion... "a pedigree view that fits the first several generations on one horizontal line and when hovered over with the mouse will show dates and location....please"

                              something similar

I have suggested something similar to merging in the other thread
