There's nothing unexpected there. Perfectly normal.
The parents average 33% EN, 66% ECI, 1% Asia.
That averages on the map off the coast of Holland, roughly.
The son averages roughly the same spot, perhaps
a bit too far east. But the Mediterranean pulls him
quite a bit south of where he otherwise would be.

You should not expect a numerical average!

Agreed! Dr McDonalds's explanation doesn't make much sense to me either.
