Genome Mate

Genome Mate is a free desktop tool used to organize in one place the data collected while researching DNA comparisons. Besides data storage it has many features to aid in identifying common ancestors.

The project is ready for general use and has moved into the beta testing phase. In this phase, emphasis will be on cosmetics and usability. Please share https://www.genomemate.org/ with your genealogy friends and family.

I just downloaded this nifty little tool about a week or so ago and I'm in love with it. I found this thread before I went and posted one of my own. I learned about it on 23andme but I also have data here as well.

Working with spreadsheets was very confusing for me, especially in regards to discovering clues for an NPE. This is really helping me see how people connect and overlap and it makes it so much more understandable. I recommend it!

I downloaded that before I even got my results and highly recommend it. It is very flexible in terms of how many SNPs/CMs to display, etc.

I also love the handy tool that provides a list of all X DNA donors. I hope they allow us to export the list in the future so we can forward it on to our X Matches.

This is by far one of the best tools I have ever used for genetic genealogy. Keeps all my information consolidated, centralized, organized, and I can see how all my cousins, relatives, are genetically connected at a glance. What would take me hours, now only takes me minutes or seconds. I can't recommend this program highly enough. A real time saver and beautifully designed - AND it's user friendly for those of us who are newbies to genetic genealogy and still learning.

The only issue I'm having is figuring out how to use it on multiple devices, yet accessing the same profiles. I suspect the backup file could sit in my dropbox, which would act as the intermediary between devices online. However, the program seems to be limited to a Windows OS where 'Silverlight' is a requirement - which means my Android tablet may have trouble with it. I do have Chrome browsers on all my devices/computers. In an ideal world, I was hoping to use GM on the go, with my tablet, thus synching it so when I'm back home at my desktop, I can continue working where I left off, and vice versa. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Genome Mate is a complicated application. Is there a forum anywhere? Can't see one. Looked at the videos but need more explanations.

Thanks for the blogs. Maybe this thread can be kept boiling?

For example, On the Relatives screen I made a confirmation link between two of my relatives which turned out later to be wrong but I can't see how to undo that confirmation link.
(The chromosome band is now green because of the link as it should be but needs to be black.)

Can anybody help please?

I've been using it for a few days now and really like it...nice to be able to see your matches from multiple sources e.g. gedmatch, 23andme, and FTDNA all on one screen.

once you click on colored segment and it brings up screen, change Connection Information back to default of Confirmed Paternal and Confirmed Maternal.

Also if incorrect, change ICW Group back to ?

Genome Mate automatically puts in "Possible Connections" and "Connection Details" based on some logical premise.

How do you delete them when you know they are impossible?

this is a comparison between the match's surname list and your gedcom. if you don't want a connection to show, on the Relative Data page you can (a) remove the surname from the Enter Surname's box and save the change. or (b) add a character such as X to the end or beginning of the surname and save the change.
