Image uploader/editor for Project admins

I would like use images of old documents or photographs to add more colour and interest to my project page.
Currently, this can only be done by placing images in a publicly accessible album at free photo sites such as Google Albums or Flickr and then copying the image's web-address into HTML edit mode.
It would be much better and easier to allow direct uploads or copy/pasting of small images directly into the editing software.
