    I double-checked - and also see that

now just goes to a pretty logo/picture.

That did not used to be the case. Clearly, something is going on. My recommendation, given this change and warnings you ran into when you tried to use what you found by googling --
Do not use what you found by googling.

Looked at another Thread -- see the link there as -- http://www.mapmy23.com/tools/ancestry_ftdna_fix.php
-- and a recent comment that it worked ( http://forums.familytreedna.com/show...&postcount=282 ) - so try that link

Because no one has figured out a really good way to get autosomal comparison results from these files compared to the old data.

Please remove any data that has been converted and uploaded by this utility. You are limiting yourself and other who match into your results to at most 3 generations.

If really need to work with those new formatted files then use some of the development tools at another site.
This is completely not true at all, as long as its the format the tool was meant to convert then it will be 99.84% coverage which it lists at the bottom of the results page. I know as I'm the author of the site/tool.

IF the coverage is far less than that somehow(like less than 95%) then FTDNA won't accept it at all.

EDIT: To clarify, I'm talking about the difference/coverage between Ancestry files, not ancestry versus ftdna.

          For instance,
Family Finder test approximately 700,000 SNPS.
Ancestry V2 chip (tested after may 2016) tests approximately 670,000 SNPS.
Of the 670,000 SNPS tested by Ancestry only approximately 426,000 can be used by FTDNA (Overlap between chip versions)
That is around only 60 percent coverage.
This does not effect immediate to 2nd cousins but it does for more distant one. FTDNA only gives these transfers partial match lists. More distant matches are omitted (4th to remote category)

This also the reason new 23andme tests are no longer transferable, they only have an overlap of around 160,000 SNPS. 23 percent coverage. FTDNA deems this 23andme chip version incompatible.

As for posts about the mapmy23 tool and ancestry files that need converted. It is not that big of difference between the original ancestryV2 file and these smaller ancestry files. This smaller ancestry files or missing approximately 10000 snps which tool inserts as no calls. This is very minor when they are spread out over the 23 chromosomes . One would not notice any difference between the converted file or persons file if it was not missing snps that had actual tested values.

I do agree that ordering family finder is better then transferring but it is not always in one's budget. It also depends on if you want to see the more distant matches.
Prairielad understands this process 100% and how the tool works(I'm the author). This is why if the file you try to convert on mapmy23 is less than 95% difference between the older Ancestry files, FTDNA will reject it as it was already only 60% coverage with ftdna chips themselves.

This isn't true(author here). There has always been a logo at the root of the website. The url to the tool itself is http://www.mapmy23.com/tools/ancestry_ftdna_fix.php

Originally I had planned to release some other tools and list them all on the main site but I've not found the time to complete them. Hence a logo only is better than a blank page LOL

This is good advice, if you find some results on FTDNA and want to match more distant relatives then just grab another test from FTDNA on sale(autosomal one). I personally have purchased the Y-DNA 37 test from them for this very reason.

However it has been displaying this message for over a month now - is this normal?

So I ran a search for mapmy23 converter and reached a web page where I could upload her Ancestry test to Mapmy23.com. When I start to download after conversion, however, McAfee goes nuts with warnings of viruses and spyware. Is this normal? Do I "accept the risk" or forget about it? Any other ideas from you transfer gurus. Thanks.
The file is a zip file with a text file inside of it. Literally impossible to have a virus in it just like the original file from ancestry. FYI

                    23 and me

Hi All! I have a feeling this might have been answered, but, I can't seem to find a direct answer. All I want to know is...even though there is a page that states "upload 23 and me data" it will not work. Is that correct? I have tried zipped file, unzipped file etc.
I guess I just want a definitive answer...Can I upload my 23 and me results on this site??

The FTDNA Autosomal Transfer page, for uploading files from other companies, states the following:
Please note that you can only transfer the following versions from 23andMe©, AncestryDNA™, and MyHeritage™:

                      23andMe© V3
                      23andMe© V4
                      AncestryDNA™ V1
                      AncestryDNA™ V2
                      MyHeritage™
Unfortunately, at this time, you cannot transfer 23andMe© V1 or 23andMe© V2 results from 23andMe©.
In addition to the 23andMe v. 1 and v. 2 chip results, the list for non-transferable files now includes 23andMe's version 5 results. This is because the version 5 chip only has about a 20% overlap with previous chips, and the results are incompatible with FTDNA's Family Finder.

When did you test at 23andMe, and from what chip version is your file? To find out (if you don't know when you tested), log in to your 23andMe account, and go to Gene Comparison. Then, compare yourself to yourself in "one to one". See how many SNPs are given as the total. Check the list below for how many SNPs were included in each version, and you will know on which version chip you tested.

The dates that each chip version were introduced, and how many SNPs were included, are (according to ISOGG's page for 23andMe):
                      v1: November 2007
                      v2: September 2008, ~555K SNPs
                      v3: November 2010, >900K SNPs
                      v4: November 2013, ~570K SNPs
v5 August 2017, ~640K SNPs (Illumina Global Screening Array)
You will note that 23andMe's v. 3 chip is the optimal result for transfers to FTDNA, because it had the most SNPs in common with Family Finder. You can see this on ISOGG's Autosomal SNP comparison chart.

Edited to add: if you have v. 5 results from 23andMe, and want to access the most matches at FTDNA, you would be better off ordering a new kit from FTDNA for the Family Finder test (assuming you have never tested otherwise at FTDNA, for Y-DNA or mtDNA). There is a sale on through the end of August, and will be others later in the year.

                        Tried fix wont work

I tried the link to the fix and did what I thought was right as there was not instructions as to what is needed. It still does not work. I tried contacting the author of the fix last week and have not had a reply. Any help would be appreciated

Did you test with Ancestry after May 2016?

Mapmy23 Tool is only for Ancestry V2 Raw Data files that will not upload to FamilytreeDNA

                            23andMe Version

To find your 23andMe version, sign into your 23andMe account. Click on your name at the far right. Click on Settings in the drop down menu. Near the bottom of the "Personal Information" section you'll see "Genotyping Chip Version Version X" where X will be the numeric value of your version.

For the BEST results at FTDNA buy your autosomal test from FTDNA. During the sale which ends tomorrow night would be a very good time!

I responded to your PM last week as well. You dont need to download the template, its simply there for devs or people curious about whats being used to create the new file format.

All you do is click the file upload button and upload your ancestry file and then on the results page you click the download button to download your converted file.
