  • Mike Maddi

    Hello all,

It recently came to my attention that a long time Family Tree DNA contributor Mike Maddi has passed away. He did some moderation work in the forum and was a very active poster. He has been involved with genetic genealogy, and Italian (specifically Sicilian) DNA research for a long time, essentially since Family Tree DNA was founded.

He helped a lot in the U106 haplogroup project and was active in many others as well. Should anyone wish to share any stories, I encourage you to do so in this thread. I will miss him.

A great loss. He had a fine mind and an excellent grasp of history and geography. We worked on the same project. We did not always agree, but he was respectful of other views. Yes, he will be missed.

I was surprised by reading of his passing. Although I cannot say that I will miss him, because our paths did not cross in this forum, he gave respect, and he earned respect. At times I disagreed with him, in a forum other than this one. He was always a gentleman, and he stated his point clearly, but never by 'hitting below the belt'. The attribute of engaging in debate while retaining mutual respect despite disagreement is worthy of admiration and praise.

I learned some things from him, and for that I am grateful to him posthumously. May he rest in peace. Having experienced his character through my interaction with him, I believe that he now does R.I.P.

I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. We haven't crossed paths in some time but I remember so many threads in which his knowledge and wisdom was so helpful and appreciated. He was a trail blazer in genetic genealogy and he will be greatly missed. Condolences to his family.
