  • How to removed kit from FTDNA

    Hello,

Currently, I have a kit at FTDNA. I have done the Family Finder only.

I would like the kit to be removed. I no longer want to have any of the matches available for viewing by anyone else.

Is there a way to do this?

    Thanks, Maggie

Hello Maggie, nobody will see the kit results, if you login, then go to

    https://www.familytreedna.com/my/acc...ngs?subtabid=1

then under Family Finder Matches & Email Notifications subheading change all four options to No. Then press the (orange) Save button below.

You would be able to instantly confirm the kit invisibility, by going to the kit Family Finder results. Instead of any matches, you will see the following flashing message
No matches found at this relationship filter setting. In 5 seconds the filter will automatically change to Show All Matches.

Please let us know whether the above worked for you.

    Mr. W.

    P.S.
Yes, those privacy setting work both ways. If you make your results invisible to others, they cannot see you.

Also, it is the same with the other DNA test results at FTDNA.

There is also some information in the FTDNA Learning Center, about removing your data and/or deleting your kit, if that is what you want to do.

          Having Autosomal Data removed

KATM's link to the Learning Centre says that "you may do so by using our customer support contact form...". This is the same process for requesting removal of Autosomal data, if for instance the data is corrupted or kit did not upload correctly.

On March 7 (16 days ago), I submitted a request to remove a raw data file when our kit was stored incorrectly by the site. I have since been told that the Help Desk staff who process these requests have no way to expedite the removal of autosomal data from an account. They said the process typically takes about a week, but due to recent site maintenance, requests to remove data are taking longer than normal.

I am also still waiting for my BAM file for Big Y 2.0 (to HG38) - when my Big Y was submitted 8 August 2017 and Big Y(1) compeled in December.... Too slow!

Last week, I had a couple of conversations with the FTDNA customer support. They started with an apology:
"Unfortunately, our Big Y Update is still processing"
and I was told that no VCFs or BAMs are being generated for anybody until the upgrade is finished.

            Please welcome to the club!

            Mr. W.
