This stuff must really vary a lot by haplogroup. Y12 on I-M223 has 4 Y-12 matches for me so a Y-12 notification is very useful.

Family Tree
I need some advice. I try repeatedly to build my Family Tree under the FamilyFinder function. When I complete the info under "Father", I tap "Save" and then "Done." The system then recycles repeatedly until I get fed up and leave. Am I doing something wrong? I can't find the answers anywhere else.

This was extremely helpful, thanks
That says it all. I look at the Setting pages from time to time, and never noticed that I could turn off 12-marker matches, which essentially says that they are fellow male human beings.

Y-Matches

To follow up, another thread provided the way to fix the problem. There is way to fix the issue. Under the Account Settings > Match and E-mail settings, there is an option to select the notification of each level of Y-DNA match. I have mine set now and need to do it one on of the accounts I administer.

The whole concept of notifications about alleged matches - whether to customers or to group administrators - needs to be reviewed. The "matches" reported have proven to be almost completely meaningless, to the extent that I always delete these messages and hardly ever look at my Family Finder, Big Y, and Y-111 results. The notifications are completely debased and have become counterproductive.

Posting trees
I am a group administrator. It would help it when I received a notice about a match between kits and members if there was a note on there if they had posted a tree or not. If they do not have a tree posted, I don't bother to look at the results, as it is a waste of time. I hate to get excited about a match, then see there is no way to see if they even lived in the same area as my family. Trees also need places. Even just a state is better than a blank.Tags: None
