  • Gedmatch no longer accepting FTDNA kits

The following was just posted on Gedmatch:

NOTICE: We are no longer accepting FTDNA DNA kit uploads. We have been asked not to say why. Please Contact FTDNA if you have any questions.

Darren or another administrator, could we please have an explanation? Is this temporary or permanent? If the latter it is a significant loss for the genetic genealogy community.

Also wondering why no FTDNA uploads to gedmatch.

This will make a difference where I recommend relatives to test. FTDNA has too small of an autosomal DNA database not to allow raw data uploads to gedmatch.com.

Whatever the problem is, the parties involved need to get it worked out.

          Ouch!

I recently ordered FIVE new FTDNA kits!

Most of my distant relatives have their kits at Ancestry.com - which has much faster growing database - but I prefer FamilyTreeDNA for the better analysis tools.

My entire project plan is about using FTDNA tools in conjunction with GedMatch. I sure hope that this GedMatch issue is temporary. My only alternative is to start ordering my new kits from Ancestry and I really don't want to do that.

Gedmatch has the tools we need for real dna comparisons

23andme just shot themselves in the foot with their price increase. Leaving ancestry and ftdna as the top dna contenders... Why on earth would they make themselves the bad guy now?

Apparently the private message system here on the forum is not working. I am just looking for some insider information. LOL

              Sorry....... it is now working.

I'd ask for a refund... you're more likely to get an answer than we are here in this forum.
Ftdna by itself is almost useless (unless they're going to 1.import v4 23andme data, and 2. provide all the tools available on gedmatch).

Anyone know why FTDNA did this?

I hope GEDmatch won't start kicking off Family finder kits.

Yet another FTDNA Customer, using Gedmatch needing answers

I have opened up a support ticket to FTDNA to find out what is going on. I am hoping the answer is it is a temporary issue that FTDNA is having with the files. With any luck I will get an answer to my ticket tomorrow. But I was hoping someone had gotten an answer here.

Well FTDNA was going through some hardware changes recently. It could be tied to whatever they got cooking up. Though telling Gedmatch not to say why, does not sound good.
