    ancestryDNA transfer

Darren, I see your message you sent to my inbox here. I was expecting an email to my personal email, which you requested. Okay, I am trying to transfer the raw DNA, just as I did, successfully, to another company. FTDNA isn't accepting it or saying there's an error. I have sent both the text file and the zip from ancestryDNA. What format does FTDNA want? Thanks for any help you can provide

Failure to launch raw DNA from AncestryDNA to FTDNA

I sent Darren a few private messages, but see no "sent" messages in my "sent box," so I will repeat the last message here:

I tried uploading my raw DNA from ancestryDNA several times overnight. FTDNA says "An unexpected error ocurred (sic) while processing your file" for the upload of the zip file. When I try to upload the text file, it gives the message: "We only accept autosomal raw data files from Ancestry DNA & 23andMe V3 (sold from about Jan 2011 to Oct 2013)." I'm not sure if the part in the parentheses refers to just 23andMe or includes Ancestry DNA. Please advise. -JPatton

        AncestryDNA transfer failure to launch

After months of waiting, I was told my raw DNA from AncestryDNA upload from April 2015 never really uploaded. I wonder why back then, after what appeared to be a successful upload, the upload box flashed me the message that my results would be available in 3 to 5 days. So, after finding out that the April upload had a failure to launch, I was advised to try to upload my raw DNA again. I did and uploading the zip file (which FTDNA said was quite all right) failed and then uploading the text file failed. Today Darren advised me to unzip the zip file and then upload the txt. file. Well, wasn't this what I'd been doing before and then only getting error messages? I think I may have found the solution. I noticed for the first time that after unzipping the zip file, I was left with a txt file with a space in the name. For example, I got "AncestryDNA 1.txt" So I took the space out and renamed the file "AncestryDNA1.txt" Could that space, which I didn't even notice for so long, have caused the error that stopped the upload? Did anyone else have to change the file name and then got it to work? Though I do remember that I saved the file months ago to a name that had no space in it. And that, which I thought had uploaded successfully, apparently didn't work. Well, I just received the message that my raw DNA will be processed in 48 hours. We shall see!

          Questions about Unlocking the matches

Hi, I uploaded an ancestry DNA and it appears to have worked. It's showing me the 20 free matches. I have a couple questions before I proceed further (I can't find the answers anywhere).

I have 4 additional ancestry DNA kits for 4 other family members (plus another in processing).

          1) Under Unlock Now it states "Get 4 people to complete the free transfer to unlock all of your matches for free." Is this 4 other people or would 4 additional kits qualify?

          2) I have no problem paying the $39 to unlock the kit I have downloaded. Will I have to pay the $39 for each kit? Is this a one time fee or an annual fee?

          3) Can I have more than 1 kit in my account?

          Thank you

Each kit in FTDNA has its own account login and password.
In Gedmatch you can merge them into one account.

            One-time fee, once per kit.

LALosh can get four people to use the upload link that FTDNA gives you to do their own free upload. Then you get full access to the Family Finder database for free.

Since LALosh has four other people in her AncestryDNA account, she can do the free upload to FTDNA for each of them, using the link she got when she uploaded, and avoid paying the $39 for full access for herself. Then each of the four others will get their own upload link and can get free full access if they each get four other people to use that link for their free upload.

I don't see a thread on this elsewhere so I'll post here.

Anyone wanting to transfer Ancestry to FTDNA can us this link to help unlock my b-in-law's kit uploaded from Ancestry. He needs 4 to use the link to save paying the $39 unlock fee, Thanks in Advance.

Unfortunately the transfer links have been down since, at least, Thursday 9/24/15. (or am I the only one seeing this???)

I can't understand why the links should not work because there doesn't seem to be a problem logging into either a Family Finder or an Autosomal Transfer account.

Or does FTDNA just not care anymore about getting new customers?

There were messages placed warning to the closure of Transfers for the moment, Probably one o this forum but there are so many threads. If you go to the transfer page it tells you this https://www.familytreedna.com/AutosomalTransfer

FYI: I was just told that autosomal transfers are turned off temporarily until late tomorrow. The team needs the queue clear to be able to do some work on the pipeline. They SHOULD be turned back on by late Friday or early Saturday. Please spread the word.

When it's turnedd back on hope you can see your way to use my link to upload Thanks In Advance. https://www.familytreedna.com/autoso...zuU2bm3g%3D%3D

                        autosomal transfer from Ancestry.com

I submitted my transfer in February, paid the cost for full results, and IN OCTOBER I HAVE STILLED NOT RECEIVED ANY RESULTS!!!!!!!

I did receive my Y-DNA results (37 markers), and would likely have considered upgrading. HOWEVER, I WILL NOT GIVE FAMILY TREE DNA ANOTHER DIME UNTIL THEY GIVE ME THE RESULTS I PAID FOR SO MANY MONTHS AGO.

THIS IS DOWNRIGHT DISHONEST IN MY OPINION.

Have you submitted a help ticket or phoned them.? There is obviously an issue that they are probably unaware of.
Another option is to PM Darren here on the forum.

I uploaded my mothers DNA from Ancestry on July 17th it is now Oct 18th and all I have gotten is 8 pages and nothing closer then 3rd-5th cousins. Mine has been on for about a year and I have more then 84 pages but my mother hasn't showed up on mine or mine on hers. I'm very disappointed as I planned on having my sister do hers but at this point I think it's rip off. I seem to get one person added once a week. Another $39.99 they will not get from me either unless they speed up the results.

You need to start calling FTDNA and keep calling them until they resolve your problem or give you a refund.
