As a project admin I am wondering if there is an easy way to delete old messages form the "Activity Feed". We really don't need to see coupon messages after they have expired and we don't need to see "New Member" messages that are a month or so old if they haven't had a meaningful reply. I see no way to delete the "New Member" message and having to delete other old messages one at a time is a real pain!
As a customer I am wondering if there is a way to delete "You Have a New XYZ Match". I really don't need to keep seeing these after I have read them.
I have just been taken on as an administrator of a project that has been running with the original public website format for several years. I am considering whether to update the page to the new mygroups format as it has a more update appearance. Is it worth making the change or should I leave well alone? Am I likely to run into any problems like losing data on the change?
You don't lose data and you won't run into problems. You can always revert back if you did not like the change. One of the main differences is that the newer format allows members to post in the activity feed. This would allow members to talk to one another. If you look up some projects you may be able to see the differences between the two.
There is a subsection of the forums for group projects. That would be a better place to post about this than here.
Thanks for that answer, much appreciated. I am keen to make the change as I feel the new page looks much better. Good to know that any bugs should have been ironed out by now. I am also brand new to forums so didn't know of any more appropriate place to post than this. Thanks again
I converted, but I keep the Activity Feed turned off. I find an email list a much better option. Set up a Yahoo Group or a RootsWeb email list. RootsWeb does not allow attachments.
I keep the activity feed on but I email members as the main form of communication. The activity feed is there just as a means to get them interacting with each other and to attract new members who might want to use the feed. This way if I disappear they still have a way to talk to one another if they aren't matches to each other. A way to place a message that even new members will see.
I use RootsWeb email lists. When someone joins the project I add them to the list. All members of the list are able to post messages and the archive of the messages stay there and are easy to search.
I am a member of a few projects using the Activity Feed and I find it to be useless. Without signing into my kit I have no idea a message has been posted.

I just converted our page to the new format and I would like to know how to turn off the activity feed page but I can't find any option for this on the website settings page. Also I would like to know if there are a range of pictures I can select from for the site?
Thanks

To turn off the "Activity Feed" sign into your GAP. Hover over the "Project Administration" tab and select "Project Profile". Scroll down to "Options". The 5th item is "Activity Feed". Click on the button in front of "Off".
Scroll on down to "Banner". Below the current banner click on "Select New Image". You have several options to select from and at the bottom of the choices you can upload your own picture.
Be sure to click the "Save Profile" button at the bottom of the page if you make any changes.
Thank so much Jim.
I have done that now, at this stage I think it is better to leave this off and I'm really happy with the new look, much updated from the old group web page with everything easier to find.
Thanks again
Neville
I wish mtdna J group was on the new MyGroups format. I manage my FMS test, a Mtdna plus account for my grandfather, and 2 Y testers and only my mtdna J is still stranded on Yahoo Tech groups. I love participating on on the various Y groups and my grandfather's mtdna K group Activity feed. It fosters such good communication, feelings of connectedness, and I learn so much. But mtdna J's communication is just a series of disconnected emails, and I haven't seen one in ages, so maybe I'm not even getting them anymore. It's a pity that mtdna J is left to being an afterthought. And, even though my mtdna has been updated (finally) to J1c3i, it's still buried in J1c3 on the results page. Other subclades are broken out, so what isn't J1c3i...J1c3f...J1c3j...J1c3k...and others? There's a J1c3a, J1c3b, etc. It's terrible that we pay good money but get treated like we don't matter in the group and are stuck with subpar interface.
