The script to fix the issue of deceased people being marked private is still running. It should be done soon.

New Tree Tool ???

Has anyone found not only ancestors on a person's tree marked as private, but the male and female icons being switched.
I went to a recent match's tree and the first thing I noticed was that he was the only one on the list of matches that showed no personal icon (blue or pink) or a photo. Got to his page and there was a hole in the middle of his tree where he should have been. Then so many icons were reversed in the family tree as in male to female. Example, Emma had a male icon and Leonard was the female of the pair. And the never ending private ggg's etc. were making holes every where.

Not there yet
While I can appreciate the effort that went into implementing fixes to the new tree as suggested by user feedback, it's still not a tool I find useful.
It really has to reduce the time and effort to scan someone's tree for common names/places... or I simply won't use it. It's hard to get "excited" about something that just doesn't measure up.

New Family Tree Tool
I was preparing for a DNA Special Interest Users Group I lead for my Computer Genealogy Society. When I started preparing the old method of displaying the trees of FF matches was still available. By the time I finished it had switch ed to the "New" Family Tree Tool. I found the old one very useful in searching for potential surname matches. The new tool is difficult and you must do a lot of scrolling around to see who is in a tree.
I sent FTDNA a note telling them I don't like the new version. Then I looked at MY TREE which was a GEDCOM I uploaded about a year ago. I was a sibling to my mother's siblings. My mother was not present. I have asked FTDNA to just remove the entire GEDCOM. I'm am skeptical about up loading anymore GEDCOMs. In giving my DNA SIGs I am comfortable recommending FTDNA tools to potential new DNA testers, but now I will have to rethink that. FTDNA is still better than 23andMe and Ancestry.com is a joke.

New Tree Tool
Wow!
Looks like you have been listening....
You've gotten most of the constructive re-alignments implemented.
One minor observation and request:
When the state value is spelled out (Wisconsin vs WI) the Date year scrolls off of the tree view.
Putting the date year first, before locations, would solve that for most cases.
Now if the tree software, just, converted to the two letter state values.....
Keep up the good work

The changes help, but
I still urgently need SCROLL BARS! It is just way too cumbersome to have to use the mouse to drag the page. Despite the changes, this feature still will not be useful to me until I can rapidly scroll across the page to scan names.
Also, it would help if the default size of the detailed view were a LOT SMALLER. In the default view, most of the text does not show, because the type is way too large (and that's with a reasonbly high screen resolution). I had to hit "-" many times to be able to see much of the information, and some of it still was not visible. It would help to make the boxes wider -- you've got plenty of horizontal space.

This is a tremendous improvement. But, since I have over 50 people in my Family Finder project, I still would like to link them, so that if I change one, it changes all.
There are a lot of other enhancements that would be nice and will hopefully be added in the near future. Keep up the good work.

Better....sorta
The fixes to the tree tool are helping but the tool is still a pain. Where does the box with the "detailed button and the number of generations and the ancestry view" go?....it is there when the page is loading and then it disappears. The zooming in and out is WAY too fussy. Why can we only see 4 generations? If I can zoom out until the little tiny tree is all alone in the middle of the page, why can't you display more generations? Is it on the disappearing tool box?
There are so few tools for dealing with Genetic Genealogy information. It is really frustrating when the companies "think they know what we want" but they don't and they just make things even harder by taking away a tool that worked and turning it into something cumbersome and useless.

I agree with some of the other comments, particularly that surnames are getting truncated and that we need a horizontal view and the ability to scroll rapidly.
Also, it occurs to me that the tree map/overview in the upper right-hand corner is wasting a lot of screen real estate; I don't see that it adds any value.
Finally, I find the current order of location followed by date, rather than date followed by location, to be rather odd.
I'm glad to see that some of the problems are being addressed, but I frankly would still be happier with a simple pedigree display like the one implemented at GedMatch.

Thank you FTDNA!
The tree tool needed major fixes and now you deliver major fixes that makes it really usableThank you for listening! The ability to search for places is a huge improvement that makes searching for connections so much easier. Of course there are details still to be fixed, but all in all: Well done!

Vast Improvements!!! Thank you, FTDNA!!
The "Detailed View" is a fantastic idea! I love having full names back. And, searching by place names is awesome!
I did submit a suggestion to FTDNA Support -- for smaller font size in relation to the box sizes-- to minimize having surnames (and given names) cut short. The font size is showing as quite huge on my computer, and is still more-than readable even when I minimize the size of everything on the screen. There appears to be ample potential for decreasing font size on everything while still being very readable. (I don't know if this is just an issue on my computer.)
Bottom line: FTDNA has quickly come up with a great solution!! :-) I assume some tweaks and finishing touches are in the works, but so far I am impressed and relieved!
