  • FTDNA Enhancements & Bug Fixes - 6/18/2014

    Hi all,

We released several nice enhancements and bug fixes today:

    Enhancements

    1. The myOrigins cluster names have been changed to more familiar and recognizable names. Customers will see a banner across the top of the myOrigins page informing them of this change. There's also a new post in the Learning Center that details the changes:

    2. Created a SNP search feature on the Haplotree & SNPs page to aid users in locating a SNP of interest. It is located at the top right side of the Haplotree page. The page will scroll down to the SNP being searched for and highlight it with a yellow bar. Even SNPs buried in the "More..." pop up will be searched!

    3. Added a privacy setting for Big Y matching. By default, matching is enabled. If someone opts out of matching they will not be able to see Big Y matches and other users will not see them. The opt in/out setting is located on the myFTDNA Account Settings page, under the "Match and E-mail settings" tab.

    Bug Fixes

    1. Corrected the retail price for Y-DNA25 from $229 to $109. Upgrade prices for Y-DNA25 were also corrected accordingly.
    2. Restored Deep Clade Extended SNP results. These results had disappeared from customers' pages.
    3. Fixed the Member Distribution map for a project's public website -- the location pins weren't displaying.

Thank you Elise. I just looked at the myOrigins update quickly. So the Jewish Diaspora now means Ashkenazi only and not Sephardic and Mizrahi?

EDIT TO ADD: I just looked at the population description, it is pretty much the same as before. So I guess they are not looking to further distinguish between Jewish groups.

I personally like the updated names for all categories (for myself) so far.

While I thought some of the cluster names were catchy, I think it is a very good step in the right direction.

I want to commend everyone involved for "walking back" some of the changes that had been implemented and listening to what folks had to say in a careful and thoughtful manner.

The transfer links seem to be working and things are looking positive.Group Admins can get through easily on the telephone also. Looking good. Thanks.

I am particularly relieved by this correction. The silent disappearance of SNP results was extremely alarming.

A big step forward. Not only less confusing but less speculative. Is there any way to pick up on Sephardic and possibly Mizrachi Jews--it seemed that PF was able to do so.

The myOrgins map for my wife, B10084, is still covered with a big "uh oh Houston". Is there a time line to repair those?

              Thank you.

Have you reported this to Customer Support? That's the best way to get individual issues resolved -- engineering will need to look into what's causing this for your kit.
