  • Site Certificate Issues

    Hello,

I tried to go to the site in my usual way this evening, ftdna.com. This was converted automatically to a secure connection, https://ftdna.com. I don't know if my browser did that by remembering the last time I connected, or whether it's a server redirect. In any case, Firefox put up an error because the site's certificate is not valid for ftdna.com - it's only valid for *.familytreedna.com, and familytreedna.com.

    Thought you should know .

I got the same message. Is it safe? I'm so tired of these problems!

There are many things on the internet that aren't safe that most folks don't know about. Following the link on to ftdna after the warning should be completely safe, barring extremely unlikely outlying circumstances.

It's just an issue for ftdna that their certificate doesn't cover all of their domains. Someone probably messed up the certificate purchase, and they will have some bureaucratic wrangling plus some expense to get it fixed up. It will probably take a month or two, if they decide to fix it.

For me, neither ftdna.com nor www.ftdna.com gets me to the site, even after clicking Proceed.

I am now forced to use familytreedna.com .

          Hi,

I suggest not using the www.ftdna.com shortcut again. I know we love it, but I doubt it will be fixed anytime soon.

          • Don't ever use Safari, it and the site combined have speed issues --no we don't know why yet.
          • Only use https://www.familytreedna.com/login.aspx to login.

          <sigh+>

I am having a somewhat different problem. I can log in to the forum part of the website (which I obviously have), but when I try and use the main site, it keeps returning me to the log in page; and yes, I am using the correct username and password. It has been doing this since Saturday afternoon.

Yesterday, someone called to my attention the Family Tree DNA site certificate issue mentioned above.

Has anyone encountered site certificate issues when you visited World Families? If so, please briefly describe what you noticed.

                SIGH...
Using both Google Chrome and IE ..
Will these problems ever ever go away.. one right after another..?

The security certificate presented by this website has expired or is not yet valid.

Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server.

Could you send me a screenshot of your Chrome Settings page?

I can intermitantly get in by typing out familytreedna.com ..sometimes it lets me in and sometimes it shows a RED Certificate error at the top.. I cleared cache and cookies..

I can go on anyone sometimes and sometimes I cannot get in at all..
