  • Changes and new features

This Monday, 11/28/2005, Family Tree DNA changed the web site code from ASP to ASP.NET. This will add a wide array of possibilities in terms of new features for the personal pages, as well as for the Group Administrators pages.
Even though some browsers do not yet support those features, the changes were made having in mind that overwhelming majory of browsers in use - Internet Explorer and Netscape. Hopefully, Mozilla will soon be able to support features like the table grid, which allows a Group Administrator to scroll the table at the "Generate Y-DNA" section, allowing to keep fixed the name and kit number - to be seen at all times, while scrolling horizontally and verically the area that contains the markers. You will also be able to sort the table by kit numbers, Haplogroups and DYS numbers.
To give you an idea of of browser usage, and why we decided to implement those changes, even though Mozilla Firefox is an excellent browser, we are displying here the statistics of browser users, from the 155,000 + customers that Family Tree DNA received during the month of November.
Users os Mozilla Firefox (and I am one of them, at home) can do what we are doing and ask Mozilla to implement the code changes to support those features. The more requests they receive, hopefully the sooner they'll implement it.
In the meantime, we inserted a code that will recognize the browser that you are using and will upload the prior version of the page that cannot display correctly in that browser.
You are welcome to report to me - [email protected] - any glitches that you may find during this conversion process, and we will try to resolve it as fast as we can. Thank you!

        XML for YDNA?

Also...there is a thread around here somewhere discussing the possibility of using an formalized XML format for sending and receiving our YDNA values. This would insure accuracy and keep us from having to re-type them all the time. Any progress on this front?

Thanks FTDNA for the new members Distribution Map & Subgroup Tools!

Thanks to FTDNA for these two new great tools!

Hopefully FTDNA is still working out the little bugs!

These tools are great, and hopefully the colors from the Members Subgroups that the administrators select from the choices offered by FTDNA under the Members Subgroup will appear on all the charts offered by FTDNA, offered to all us administrators, in the future, and the balloons on the Distribution Map, as well!

                Mtdna Map

In the mtdna map when the mtdna is from a male like me and my son. this program lists the male ancestor in the tear drop symbol. what this does is when females who test click my sons tear drop in the frosinone project they get james denning longford ireland. what good is that to her.
i understand people dont count mtdna for much i do.
lets at least get this right
also why can women only belong to one mtdna group when men can join two ydna or one mtdna and ydna groups

Where did the results tables go?

Am I dense and just can't find the announcement somewhere? I can't find any surname projects that still have their results tables up.

at the bottom of the gap page is webpage setup
inside are new buttons to allow maps and stuff just allow them

then your new public page will have five boxes up top results ydna mtdna and another one or two clcik the ydna and you ll see the results
                      with the map below

now bact to page set up
you can color code the groups of people or lines
you can do haplogroups or maybe separate groups of r1b
its easy i did it check out the denning variant page

                        New features (Feb 14)

Do they post a list of daily changes somewhere?

Today I've found that I can no longer search for ydna or mtdna groups in the project "Name" search box. How do you find the groups you're in if you don't bookmark them the first time you visit?

Also all R1b's are now R1b1's.

FROSINONE is a Geographical project. Try looking for the R1b project.

You used to be able to find it searching for R1b.

You used to be able to find it searching for V.
