  • Weekly Information Technology/Engineering Update (4 Dec 2013)

    Hello,

The following updates are scheduled to be released later today. If any fail final testing, they will be rolled back.

    1) The timeout for myFTDNA will be increased from 30 min to 2 hrs. This will benefit everyone but is great for group admins.

    2) We are changing the word Triangulation to Common Matches for Family Finder matching.

    3) We are updating Steps to Genetic Distance on both the Y-DNA and mtDNA matching pages.

    4) We are fixing the bug in the Interactive Tour. It was getting cut off at the Family Finder section but will now complete.

    5) We are adding the ability for customers to download chromosome browser data for all of their matches. This new option is towards the top right side of the chromosome browser page and will be in Excel format.

    6) We are updating the look of profile displays across Family Finder, mtDNA, Y-DNA, and Advanced matches page.

    7) We are migrating myFTDNA media files to a different (faster) server. This will cause a 4 to 6 hour downtime for impacted pages. There will be an under construction message during the downtime.

I hope that having this information in advance is helpful. :-)

Thanks so much. I had noticed the change from Triangulation to Common Matches already this morning. And it's great to be able to download all matches!

One thing: I just posted in the Family Finder basic forum about seeing warnings for security certificates over the last day or so, when logging in to myFTDNA. Could this be related to the work on these new changes?

          mtDNA screen explanation

          Hello Rebekah !

While making site improvements I would like to see an explanation of "steps removed" from otherwise identical mtDNA matches. I have searched the FAQ, cannot find an explanation anywhere, and cannot find any explanation accessible via help off the mtDNA matches screen.

          Thanks.

            Download raw data?

Is this why we can't download raw data right now?

First, a big thank you for letting us download all matches.

I downloaded one of my accounts and one of the matches has extra columns. It looks like a SNP name in the chromosome column and BigY in the start column. All the expected information is also there, just moved two columns to the right.

One of the haplogroups I follow had been putting extra information in the name field, but that was removed overnight. This looks like a different project may be doing something similar.

                Triangulation download missing "focus" person

                Loving the triangulation feature, thanks!

I have a query, when I do an "in common with" triangulation and download the results it's always missing ME, it starts at the person that I am triangulating with. In my opinion shouldn't it include my details or the 'focus account's) details?

                  Thanks for the updates Rebekah.

A question though: I can't get the FF matches page to load in Chrome. The other FF pages load, such as the chromosome browser page, but the match page does not. Chrome just hangs.

Question 2: The new "Download All Matches to Excel (CSV Format)" link doesn't seem to do anything for me.

                  Thanks.

Chrome works for me... [original: The Excel link sends the file directly to your download folder [watch lower left corner on your screen]; it is actually an xml file.] [revised: same problem ... on chromo browser screen the link does nothing...]

Yes, the raw data is part of the media file move. I was just told that the transfer will not be complete by closing today. Thus, raw data, profile images, and other files will not be turned back on until tomorrow morning.

                        Susan,

Please send me a kit number for this problem by direct message. I will have someone in QA look at it first thing in the morning.

Re the new-style Profile pop-up: just wondering if it might work better on the screen as a landscape, as opposed to portrait, design, with the info arranged side-by-side. I see it's using that horrible garish blue again. Can't see what was so wrong with the original dark blue colour scheme.

Thanks for removing the photo avatars from the main listing pages, although I fear their absence might only be temporary. (Perhaps they could be restricted to only show on the pop-up Profiles.) Some of mine were enough to scare the horses. They couldn't possibly have been related to me, er ... could they?
