Thanks you for your answer. I hope it comes back positive for something else.

The * is supposed to mean "negative for all known subclades."
However, at FTDNA, the Haplotree will show you on the * branch even if you haven't been tested for anything below it yet. That's just due to the way the Haplotree is designed -- there's no distinction between R1b1a2 (without the *) and R1b1a2*. So with respect to the Haplotree, perhaps it's best to define the * as:
"On this branch, but not yet determined to be in any subclade."
And that can mean one of two things:
1) You haven't tested for all the subclades yet
2) You've tested negative for all known subclades
In your case, since you only have a predicted haplogroup (or even if you had just a SNP-confirmed backbone haplogroup), that means you haven't tested for any of the subclades yet, and therefore #1 definitely applies to you. So yes, you can still go beyond R1b1a2, and the deep-clade test is appropriate for you.

Can someone please look at my account from FTDNA and tell me if my R1b1a2* needed a deep clade or not. I'm getting conflicting infor on what the asterisk means. By all means I want the deep clade IF my dna can go further than "*" but if by chance the asterisk really does mean that it was already Neg for a subclades then who do I contact to stop the test? I've been asking this question for 2 days and I cannot seem to get a confirmation about it.

I just want to make sure before the deep clade gets run that I really need it.
Thanks
