102 and still waiting...
I am batch 102 and still waiting for my 25, 37 and haplogroup SNP. The first two are now 2 months overdue and they are on the B swab. Max says my pherograms are unclear. Still, not sure why they can get the 12 markers but not the 25 and 37; technique should be the same. I have to wonder if the genographic project is slowing things down a bit. Have already paid for kits for 3 other people, and I think the FTDNA people are good folks, but the actual guys doing the testing in the lab probably need some additional help. I am a little worried they have bitten (or scraped) off more than they can chew.

batch 107 mtdna
Hi there.... I have read that the target dates are an estimate and range within a few days. That could mean three days or more plus or minus the "target" date. I'm curious when I should expect the mtdna results if the 24th of this month was the "target" date. The y-dna results were reported to me on Friday the 22nd which was early and I was very pleased with the prompt schedule. Is there any way to track the mtdna..... if it needed to run through again or any hang- ups. Keep up the good work over there.......... -Cheers

Unresolved Tests
We understand your comments.
We wish that the Y-DNA test would be as simple as pulling a product from the shelf.
As an example, one of the tests mentioned in this thread was one of 4 in that batch (about 0.35% of the batch), that after 4 attempts did not produce a pherogram that would give us a reading with a non-ambiguous conclusion. The fact that one panel gave all the results unambiguously doesn't mean that one or more specific markers in another panel couldn't have an ambiguous reading. Those are the situations where even though our costs exceed by far what we charge, we will process again and again until we can give you a reliable result. That's also why we ask for 2 vials, so that in case vial A does not produce a good sample, we can go to vial B. We run twice vial A, and then twice vial B and in case the samples do not provide us an unambiguous reading, we will send you vials C and D for new material collection.
Just to give you a statistical idea of how uncommon it is to have results not come on time because of the above reported situation, of over 10,000 kits processed by the lab last year, we had at the beginning of the year
106 tests in the same situation as yours, i.e. 99% of the tests were delivered. This number has been reduced to 10 by now.
I hope this post clarifies the situation and the process.
The Genographic Project, rather than delaying us, is in fact going to speed up our process since to enter this agreement with National Geographic and IBM we substantially enhanced the lab capacity with manpower, additional sequencing machines and robots. In fact, over 70% of customers on batch 108, which had the due date 5/8, have already received their results as of 5/4.

Delay in markers 26 to 27
I don't understand the difference in evaluating the first 25 markers and markers 26 thorugh 37.
I early December 2004, I purchased the full 37 marker Y test.
In December I submitted vials A and B. My first 25 markers were posted on the Surname Project web page.
Then, in February, I received a notice that Vials C and D were needed. About the same time, I noticed that the first 25 markers were removed from my Surname page.
As per request, in February, I submitted vials C and D. Two months later in April, all 37 markers were posted.
Now in May, I notice that my markers 26 thorugh 37 were again removed from the surname project page. But this time, I received no notification or explanation of what's going on. My surname group administrator has asked but received no plausible explanation of what's going on.
What is the difference in processing markers 1-25 and processing markers 26-37?

Hi Xander
No I haven't received any result yet. At time I posted the date was time they just received the request for an upgrade.
I would bet they will have this completed early possibly a couple day upto a week early.
Patience we are talking about getting result from some of the smallest material of a living being. =)

I believe that I am one of the 4 (0.35%) mentioned by Eileen as problematic in batch 102, but I did eventually get all my results, which are internally consistent.
However, I do have a question. There must be a sensitivity and specificity to this test, like any other. Max was very helpful in explaining the problems of pherogram interpretation. But it does leave open the issue of how accurate is accurate? With a difficult to interpret sample, I understand that the test may be repeated, but then what? Best of three? Is the accuracy of the DYS values 99%, 70%, or what? Since a single change in DYS values is so significant, I would really like to know the certainty of the data I am dealing with.
