I hear you. It was kind of Catch22 thing for me. I was concerned about spending a lot on a newer product that might not have a big enough database or long enough track record.

But if everyone felt that way how would the DB ever get big enough? It's like taxes: No one wants to pay, but we'd be all up in arms if bridges were falling apart left and right.

This price was right for me. And upon mature reflection, why not give it a go? I spent a similar amount on Y tests which got me squat for useful information, but if you think about FF, that supposedly has a range of 5th cousins or 6 generations back, I must be increasing my odds of a paternal-line match by like 3,200 pct.

I know that the pattern of autosomal inheritance is variable, but if phenotype is any clue, I should have gotten a fair amount from the old man. If I get any even remote paternal-side matches I think I stand a decent chance of filling the rest in with paper research.

This is good news. I have a y-dna 37 marker upgrade in this batch.

And again, I spoke too soon. All my results, up to marker 67 have now posted. The expected date was 8 Aug 2011.

But no matches at 67 markers, which I expected, as my closest match (the only one past 12 markers) has a GD of 2 at 25 markers and 4 at 37 markers.

I got parts of my dads DNA test back, just the 12 markers and it shows he has no matches, is that possible?
But he appears to be another Haplogroup G, totally didn't not expect that.

My cousin also got his deep clade results back yesterday- G2a3b1a1a, does anyone know much about this Subclade?

My son's results for 1-25 came in last night. I am awaiting his 26-37 results and my mtdna results. Is there a typical time frame that the batches take to complete?

Awesome. Were your son's results in this batch? I have an upgrade in this batch as well. I have read that the average time from FTDNA receiving the kit to results is about 6 weeks, with some tests taking a bit longer and some being completed a bit earlier.

Yes, my son's Y-37 and my mtDNA orders were in this batch. We've had lots of family tested on 23andme and are very familiar with their process, but these are our first familytreedna tests, so just trying to be patient and get up to speed. I'm trying to decide whether to upgrade or to ask more relatives to do Y testing for different lines. This testing can be addictive!

Indeed it can be addictive. I first tested with FTDNA around 2006, but didn't have much time to research into what it all means until recently. I've always had a positive experience with FTDNA and I am trying to wile away the hours learning more about the process, so I can get the most out of the results when I receive them. I'm glad your son's results came in and I hope I receive mine soon as well.

I got my dad's 37 marker results tonight, but still not matches, or at least that is what is shows, but his Haplotree shows several matches. Does anyone know why this is? If has has Haplotree matches would he show matches at the 12, 24 and 37 marker matches?

Go to his User Preferences page and see if he's set to be compared only within his projects or with the entire database. If he's set to projects only, change to entire database, and be sure to click Save. Then check his matches again.

If he's already set to be compared to the entire database, then he may not have close enough matches for FTDNA to display them on his Y-DNA Matches page.

The haplotree page only shows 12-marker matches, but those matches can range from 12/12 down to 8/12. However, the Y-DNA Matches page will only show 12/12, and 11/12 only for those in the same project as you. This is because 12-marker matches are extremely broad, so anything less than 11/12 is often not very useful.

Also, some of the entries on the Haplotree matches page are anonymous samples from academic studies -- those won't ever show on your Y-DNA Matches page.

You can also take a look at your Ancestral Origins page -- that shows anonymous matches too, but will show them at 12, 25 and 37 markers. Do you have matches there?
