  • Batch 400 FF Conversions due 4/6

I see a group admin report showing many of my members are getting the Family Finder conversion. The batch number is 400 and the expected date is 4/6/2011.

"Those who sign up by Wednesday, February 16th, can expect results from the conversion within 2 to 3 weeks. We expect our entire Family Finder database to be converted in approximately 6 to 8 weeks. Your existing Family Finder results will continue to be available in your account until the everyone has been converted." FTDNA Email 11 Feb 2011

I have 4 kits in for the conversion, also batch 400 with the same expected results date which is just a little different to the date suggested by the email that came out. My 4 kits were all confirmed for the conversion on 11 Feb!!

Although my native language is American English sometimes I just feel dense. Based on what this says (I recognize the language from the email FTDNA sent out to us), since I signed up before the 16th, I'm in the group at the front of the queue. So they will rerun our DNA on the new chip within 2-3 weeks. If i can "expect results" presumably that means I will see my new Illumina results on the site. But it also says the old results will continue to be available until everyone's is done - 6-8 weeks. So does that mean for the intervening 4-5 weeks, both sets will be available to us? That's the only way I can make sense of that. Matt? Anybody??

          batch 400

And nothing shows in my pending results--it took 3 days for FF to answer me when I ask and they finally gave me a batch number but no date:

Thank you for your email. Your Family Finder test was batched on 2/16/11 in Batch 400.

Please let me know if you have any questions or if there's anything else I can do for you.

            400 batch results

I was told that our results would be ready in 2-3 weeks. And it would take 6-8 weeks to redo everybody. Also, that both sets of matches would show until everyone was converted. Can anyone confirm if this is correct ?

My FF is not a conversion, but a new order to an existing kit (the Facebook sale) and is also in Batch 400, expected 04/04/2011.

Yes this is correct information. I have a note into FTDNA asking for an update but as far as I know the first kits went in last 2/16 so we should hear back anytime between now and the next 2 weeks.

2 of my 3 kits just posted results. These are conversions not new orders.

                    Batch 399-400

I see that some people from batch 400 have gotten results while batch 399 has not. Why would that happen or is it because they are a conversion and not a new test? My date is still 4/6 on batch 399. New FF and mtdna. Adopted and overly anxious to say the least.

Good luck using FF for finding info about bio parents. I am also adopted and received 65 matches ranging from 3rd cousin to 5th and distant. I know my bio-mother's identity and was able to relate a couple of the matches to her side of the family. The other matches (about 61) are related somehow, but if they are with my bio-father, I have no idea how they are related, or what surnames are involved. For adoptee's, FF provides great information, but how do you use it.

Start with your closest matches who have provided surname and gedcom data. If you don't see the data then email your matches and ask for information politely - but if they don't reply don't waste too much time on them as there will always be more that will share in the future.

The idea is to look for common ancestors.

On your mother's side look for people who have common ancestors with your mother.

On your father's side you will need to find two people who have common ancestors with each other who match you too. Sometimes these are parents and children and if so it helps you figure out which part of their family tree to look at. If they are strangers to each other or distant cousins then it will help you see that you may also have the same common ancestor as well.

As you find people who are knowingly related and they both match you, then you will have clues as to where in their family you might be connected.

It will take a lot of research and time.

                        .

I now have 1 of my 4 kits in batch 400 through the conversion process with so far about 8 matches compared to the 80 or thereabouts before. There are matches now that were not there previously.
