    348 - Family Finder. Expected 03/31/2010

Same for all beta participants (with a good sample on hand) I assume?

I think it's supposed to be open for general release in mid March. Surprisingly, I didn't have to scrape again with all the extra STRs I ordered.

I have placed an order and am awaiting confirmation of it from FTDNA.

As for scraping, as they say in their Beta info if they have an "untouched vial of DNA" then they can proceed with that without requiring another scrape.

I sent 3 vials originally, and I've had 67 markers and a bunch of SNPs done, as well as the FGS. I believe they had to retest during my FGS so they may have accessed one or both of my backup vials for that. I guess I'll hear from them in the next few days regarding the need or otherwise for a new scrape kit. I hope not, as that means a big delay.

I see that I am also in batch 348, so it seems that I have a "viable vial", so to speak.

If yours is due 03/31/2010, does that mean it only takes a month to get those results back? If so, I'd be interested since thats a quick turnaround.

The ordering system seems to know what vials are in inventory, I received an email within minutes of ordering saying that they were sending me a new swab kit. I had my initial test back when they only sent two vials at a time, and I've had several upgrades including an FGS since then.

Update: I need to scrape again ...

"Due to the large amount of DNA required for this product, we must extract DNA from a previously unused vial. We will mail you a kit with swabs and vials to collect additional samples shortly. "

Update: I sent my new set of 2 samples off yesterday. I'm probably now at the tail end of batch 348.

My Family Finder is in batch 349, expected due date 4/7. They sent an e-mail that I already had an unsused vial on hand and so they would start right away.

I am in Batch 348 for FF.
There seems to be some confusion at FTDNA, maybe they have a very large batch. I had to send them some more DNA which no doubt will mean it will take longer to get results.
On Sunday they sent me 2 emails within 2 hours, slightly different, and rescheduled my estimated results date from 31/3 to 05/4 and back ro 31/3. The kit I returned won't get there until the end of this week or even neat week.
According to posts on another forum there asre claims that some people in Batch 348 have already received results - and that was mid last week!

I received those 2 emails as well, the first of which contained numerous grammatical errors that were corrected in the second.

Although neither my batch number nor ETA date were changed, the following comment was added to the notes column on my Pending Lab Results page:

"This expected date is based on an unused vial being available at the time your order was placed. Vial status was sent to you in a email confirmation at that time. If that email said that we did not have an sample on hand then a kit was sent to you on the next business day. When your kit is returned it will be placed in the lab with the remaining samples from this batch. We thank you for your Family Finder order and your participation during this beta program."

It's good to see FTDNA being more communicative with its customers.

i also got the "odd" emails Sunday.

Apparently I missed the change to May, and back, I only saw that my date was (still) 31March10, which made no sense

And I had already mailed the vials back a week ago, they should have them already.

I find it hard to believe anyone in 348 already has Family Finder results (I also saw the note)

Add me to the confused email list and my date is still 3/31.

All the mention of a bad test run, and having to re-do it - possibly requiring a new scrape, but not really; I haven't seen a scrape kit in the mail, so I don't know.

I thought I was just tired when I read those emails - but I see most of us read something that might have been written by someone who just stepped off a spacecraft. ;-)

On my ftDNA pending results page:

                          Pending Lab Results

Below is a list of Pending Lab Results...
                          Pending ItemsTESTS EXPECTED* BATCH NOTES
Family Finder(FamilyFinder) 03/31/2010 348 This expected date is based on an unused vial being available at the time your order was placed. Vial status was sent to you in a email confirmation at that time. If that email said that we did not have an sample on hand then a kit was sent to you on the next business day. When your kit is returned it will be provided to the lab with the remaining samples from this batch. We thank you for your Family Finder order and your participation during this beta program.

                          * The above expected date is a target used by the lab. Actual date may vary by a few days.

A very small percentage of the tests do not return conclusive results during the first run. In other words, those samples did not produce a reading that would allow for our lab to determine with 100% certainty the values for one or more markers. When this happens we re-test the sample. This procedure is repeated up to 3 times after the initial test fails (one more time with Vial A, and if the result is still inconclusive, 2 additional times with vial B). if at the end of the process we cannot determine reliable results (extremely small percentage of cases), this is generally attributed to a poor scraping, in which case we send you vials C and D for a new scraping.

Well, I emailed them, and asked "why are you sending me this, what are you trying to tell me ????", and they replied, basically, "never mind" ...............
