  • Late Batch results!!

Just received a note from FTDNA and was just told that due to thousands of requests received during a sale, some results will not post until March 2010. My FGS due 2/1/10 was moved to 3/8/10. This is Batch 339.

Here is my issue. If there are thousands of results pending from great sales
offered by FTDNA, shouldnt those who paid full price have their results prioritized? And if not, shouldnt we be given the same discount that caused our results to take several months to post?

    After all, fair is fair.

    I second that.

I wonder what really happened. Didn't FTDNA get new equipment before the sale that was supposed to streamline fulfilling orders? Did equipment break down? Were there staff cuts?

The current price is pretty close to the promotional price they ran last October (it was $439 before the promotion) and they did warn people then about the possibility of a back log if they had a large number of orders. Granted, they could have done a better job estimating the time to get test results. My order that I placed October 14 is two months behind the original estimated time - and still waiting. If your results are only delayed by 5 weeks, then it looks like they might be starting to catch up. I have no idea of the cause of the delay - could be the large number of tests, or maybe quality assurance takes longer than they expected, or maybe the new machines are not as fast as they hoped. But they have processed over 1400 results since Nov 7, and it looks like they are cranking out about 30 a day. Each individual result has to go through a QA process. I'm still amazed that you can get the FGS at this price. I remember not that long ago when it was $895.

Was it similar to this? ...

          Late 339 Results

I can understand the delay but why are the "Pending Lab Results" on my FTDNA Home Page not updated to let me know?

            results

Yes, GTC, very similar. I dont mind the delays, as long as I get dependable error free results. But it is a little frustrating that in the exact same batch, my HVR1 and HVR2 resukts are back, but not the FGS. This is a little confusing, but it must be that the FGS test is much more complicated or that something needed retesting.

To those points I'd say 'yes' and 'possibly yes'.

I guess the only known is that your FGS will definitely come.

                Batch 339

Ok, I got the explanation, and the new date of 3/8. My question is why do I already have partial results for both batches 342 and 343? The first (339) is MtDNA the second 2 are both YDNA--is that the reason?

I don't have the exact explanation but, from my own experience and observation of other people's experiences, it seems that the individual orders (customers) within batches are split up into jobs and done by different staff and/or labs presumably according to specialty.

FTDNA publishes your results as these individual jobs are completed.

In my case I had HVR1, HVR2 and FGS in the same batch. HVR1 came back quite quickly. HVR2 and FGS arrived many weeks later.

Delays can be caused by a number of things such inability to get a good "read" of your sample the first time, or the results returned by their analysis machinery may need interpretation by a specialist, etc.

From the viewpoint of one who ordered during the sale period and whose first predicted date for Batch 332 was 12/14/09, I see nothing fair in suggesting my results, which already appear to be on the back burner, be taken off the stove completely and put on the shelf so that the tests of those who paid a few dollars more can be done first.

The current price isn't that much more than the sale price, and the reason given for the discount was that our results were going to build up the full mtDNA database making more matches possible.

This is my case too, HVR1, HVR2, and FGS all in Batch 332. The difference is, I have received no results whatsoever.

                      Well Said!

I think we are all in this together. Let's not forget, the tests are not cheap! Many testers/potential testers with financial constraints rely upon these sales (myself included as a medical student on my 2nd extended degree).

Not only do these sales limit the impact on my wallet, they also encourage others to join, and more importantly, BUILD UP THE DATABASE. This is essential, and is one of FTDNA's strengths.

Unfortunately, without us 'cheapskates' there would be less of a database to cross-reference.

The fact is, we have all paid to be tested: some took advantage of the time-limited discount, whilst others didn't.

Access to this 'service' is key here.

With all that unexpected profits made by FTDNA, maybe they should consider dropping the cost of tests for future testers/upgraders, or re-investing in staff/equipment!

                        Late Batch Results

I have no argument with that and some delays are probably inevitable. I only wish that FTDNA would update my "Pending Results". It still states the following:
                        TESTS mtDNAPlus(HVR2)
                        EXPECTED: 02/01/2010
                        BATCH 339
I did receive my HVR1 results weeks ago.

                          sorry darlins

I am sorry Russell and to others who bought during the sale. I didnt mean to say what actually was written, although the thought did cross my mind, and my fingers did the walking. But after thinking on it, I was sorry I even sent that thread. Please forgive me but I was frustrated with the long extension which had I had never experienced before. And this was on the one part of the test I was most excited about. I therefore, remain quietly in queue, and have taped my mouth shut and fingers to the floor.

No worries Nicki - we are all friends on this forum!

I think the suspense is getting to us all TBH! From my side, I find myself checking 2-3 times daily despite the estimated date being a week away....!

Hopefully your wait will not be so long now Nicki!
