It would be great to visit such an interesting place. I would need to spend at least a month there.
My wife is from Volgograd (the former Stalingrad) in southern Russia. I've been swimming in the Volga River.
The Scythians are supposed to have had a village or an encampment on or near the hill called the Mamaev Kurgan (there is a huge WWII memorial there now) on the west side of the river, and the Mongols had a watchpost there.

I matched my wife's mtdna results matched exactly from genographic project. My mtdna results are U5a1a. I received my ydna results - I was confirmed as R1b1c*. I'm in the process of testing for R1b1c9 and R1b1c9a. If I am negative to these markers - I'll test for R1b1c10. I either could be Northern Germanic or Southern Germanic. With my U5a1a - I could be Frankish or Norman Sicilian.
