Do you remember when you were a youngster and Christmas was around the corner? Well, that how this DNA stuff works.

I'm in batch 148 too but I am not quite sure as to what I will get from this next test. Can anyone illuminate me? I am really new to all of the testing and I made the batch cutoff day within two days of receiving my mtDNA results.

What test did you order in 148?

I'm going to have to defer to someone else on that one. I've not taken the plunge into mtDNA testing, yet. I'm sure it's somewhere in my future, though. And, I expect you to be an expert by then so I can get some help.

                        Sorry

                            Phyllis,

If you look at your personal FTDNA results page, you'll see the mtDNA reference sequences at the bottom of the page for HVR1 and HVR2 -- two different regions of your mtDNA. The mutations from your initial mtDNA test were just from HVR1. The mtDNARefine test will give you additional mutations from HVR2.

                            Here's FTDNA's mtDNA Results Tutorial:

                            http://www.familytreedna.com/mtDNA_tutorial.html

Have you uploaded your results to Mitosearch yet? You can do that from your FTDNA results page. You can also search Mitosearch for other people who have your HVR1 mutations. Your search results will show you both the HVR1 and HVR2 mutations for anyone who matches your HVR1, but has completed both tests. This will give you an idea of what your HVR2 mutations might look like.

                              Thanks Elise

Thanks for your suggestion, as I begin to look for matches, I seem to understand more and more. This forum really helps because of people like you.
