I presume that no one in batch 149 has gotten any results yet? My uncle's test in this batch is due on June 2.

I certainly wasn't expecting this yet... but I got the results for my first 25 markers last night after 10 PM ! My due date was June 2nd, so that's a week early.

            Great to hear that Paul!
What did you turn out to be?

I got the first 25 markers of my uncle's yDNA results, also early (expected on June 2).

Despite his Polish descent, his haplogroup is G2 (Ysearch ID 3VPV7). Could he descend from the Alans (a branch of the Sarmatians) who ruled southern Poland in the 5th century?

                That's an intriguing hypothesis Igmayka:

They estimated I1a. Scandinavian, I reckon. Not what I was expecting at all, unless it doesn't rule out the possibility of a Dutch or German origin.
Geographically, the Netherlands aren't that far from Sweden/Finland, etc.
I don't really know what to make of this.

                    Paul,

maybe you should start from here:

I did read that page. Thanks. I'm just not sure it makes sense, with my surname. I wonder what the original spelling was if the origin was scandinavian.

                        Paul,

Being I1a, as I am, you can very easily place your ancestry in what is now north-western Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, etc. In my communications with Ken Nordtvedt, he says mine looks like the Saxon version of I1a. He has also identified a version that is centered more up in Norway/Sweden.

Have you uploaded your results to Y-Search. I'd be interested in comparing your results to mine... Q3RY5

Well, that makes sense then. I just saw all these Finland / Iceland matches and started to wonder if Scandinavian meant limited to that, or the general area. The story was that my Sheets were Dutch, so maybe it is true then?

Here's my ID on ysearch: TKQJ3

I think my haplotype more matches the Nordic one, but I don't have all my markers yet, and there was one in particular marker I can't remember now that would help determin which version of I1a.

                          Thanks.
                          Paul

Edit: I found the marker, it was DYS462, which I don't have yet. I meant Norse version, not Nordic.

You win. On the 7 mismatches between us, you have the higher marker count 5 times.

You won't get the DYS462 by testing through FTDNA, even with the increase up 67 markers. I tested through Sorenson (SMGF) [they do test DYS462] which is a research outfit testing Y-DNA, mtDNA and autosomal DNA. All they require is a 4 generation family tree. They're free, also. The bad news is that they do NOT guarantee you'll ever see your results. They disclose this right up front and people still get pissed at them. When they do test your DNA, they will not return the results to you [again fully disclosed] but will post them in their searchable database. By searching, you can find your results.

You must have patience [Stevo ]. I sent my sample in back last September...still waiting.

I'll be damned! Good thing you told me that, or I'd really be waiting for a long time for DYS462 to come in! Actually, I did the free SMGF thing back in March, but I'm not holding my breath on that.

Could my haplogroup get more refined when the rest of my markers come in?
Or doesn't it work that way?

Yes, I believe Ken uses some of the additional markers that you get when you go up to 37 to refine his 'estimate' of which variety of I1a you belong to. I do know that the DYS462 is one he uses to define what he calls "Ultra-Norse".
