UiNeill would have shared his dna sequence with lots of males even at the time he was born..if he existed at all. I guess it's a common R1B1 sequence.
it doesn't mean an Irish Ghengis Khan fathered thousands of children.
Of course I wouldn't put it past the O'Connor folks of Munster.
He would not be the originator of his sequence, nor would he be the only male that was spreading that same sequence.
The sequence was supposedly more common in N/W Ireland with some matches in Scotland.
That's my take on it.

Here is a page of Sept names. I can't say it is accurate. So I read it accordingly.
True, but these folks share one common ancestor during the time period in which Niall lived and in the same region. He was rich. He had loads of wives and lots of sons. Oral tradition says it was him, too.
Sounds like a pretty compelling case for Niall of the All-Nighters to me.
Rereading the Niall stuff, they do make a convincing argument and he does have a distinctive signature group of markers. They could be right.
Irish history is unique I'd have to say. I'm sure there's been some creative filling-in-the-blanks but the overall picture more often than not proves to have truth at the core. Genealogically, they do have the earliest historical figures.
I wish all families had their "distinctive" or "personal markers"... maybe in the future. How many markers are they going to increase to for Y-DNA testing? We're at 59 now. Sooner or later we'll have enough markers that there should be loads of signatures to go around!

Now that's funny! They say 3 million descendants world-wide? One out of every ten Irishmen? That's alot of all-nighters - no wonder he died - probably died of exhaustion!

Let's get the UiNiall 37 number sequence. That would throw a little reality into it...wouldn't it?
c'mon 147
I don't think my Y-DNA line is Irish, so it's not a big area of concern for me.
What Irish I have comes via females (and, of course, they had fathers, etc.), but they had names like O'Carroll, McNeill, McElroy. That McNeill might be MacNeill and turn out to be Scottish; I'm not sure.
Anyway, I think I have about as much chance of being a descendant of Genghis Khan as I do of being a descendant of old Niall of the Nine Hostages, as far as my Y-DNA is concerned anyway.
Until you get your first results ftdna tells you what stage of processing your dna is in. Ever since I got my first results all I have is a target date. My target date for this batch is 5/24 (my yDNA upgrade); is that about the same time other folks are scheduled?

Of course, this is my first test (Y-DNA 37), so my target date is 05/19/2006.
What did you upgrade to? 59 markers?
Are you having the SNP deep clade test done?
(Pardon me if you have already posted that info.)
I've noticed that those deep clade tests and upgrades seem to take longer than the initial 12, 25, and 37-marker tests.
Has anybody else noticed that, or am I wrong in my impression?
It seems that the greater detail involved in those later tests requires a higher level of precision and thus more time.
My Target Date is 5/19 and I'm a first time tester going for the 25 marker Y-DNA test. I'd guess sitiv1 has upgraded to a lot more markers!
I really should consider upgrading my markers before doing the deep clade test. Y-DNA testing is most useful when it's in comparison to the results of others. The test would be useless if you were the only one with results! Not many Cullens though have taken the test yet.
I only am doing a y12-y25 upgrade. I wonder if they didn't get enough DNA to expand the tests out of my sample. I initially put in for a y12 and a hvr1 test; the results were targeted for 4/28, and the y12 arrived on 4/12. They then said my hvr1 was targeted for 5/10. I put in my upgrade 12-25 around the end of april; it's targeted 5/24.
It sort of sounds like they started over from scratch again.
I kind of had my hopes up today; I got spoiled by my early y12 results

Since you got your Y-12 results way ahead of schedule, maybe you'll get lucky on this go-round, too.
Just noticed that this thread has, by far, more posts than any other in the Batch Calendar forum. And no, there's no point to this post -- just making an observation
