This is being done by people across various haplogroups. Usually, people take the slowest moving markers to see from what country or region that they find the most matches. I discovered this when I contacted someone with whom I appeared to have a 30 marker match for the first time. Alas, the fast-moving markers did not match at all and we were not related in a recent timeframe. Still, I understand the value in doing so when you are from a common haplogroup like R1b.
