Batch 147 created

This is being done by people across various haplogroups. Usually, people take the slowest moving markers to see from what country or region that they find the most matches. I discovered this when I contacted someone with whom I appeared to have a 30 marker match for the first time. Alas, the fast-moving markers did not match at all and we were not related in a recent timeframe. Still, I understand the value in doing so when you are from a common haplogroup like R1b.

Thanks for your responses. I have a better understanding now. Although I have not been tested for it, I believe I am R1b1c9. I have spent considerable time making comparisons with the various Internet data and my results seem to point in that direction. I am GM5J9 at Ysearch.org.

I looked at your ysearch account. I agree that there's a good chance that you're R1b1c9. I mentioned that the research haplotype had DYS492=13, which is the best indicator so far for an S21+ prediction. (S21 is the SNP that defines R1b1c9.) You do have that value, plus you have DYS390=23, which is found at higher percentages among S21+ men, than those who test S21-. The R1b modal for DYS390 is 24.

However, the only sure way to know if you're S21+ or S21- is through a SNP test. You're probably aware that Ethnoancestry is the only company that presently tests for S21+ and a couple of downstream markers. I recommend that you test at Ethnoancesty. Their website is www.ethnoancestry.com.

Hey, not to get into your conversation, but I have been tested I am R1b1c but not i'm not R1b1c 1-8. My DYS492=12 and my 390=24, so I’m probably not 9 then, what does that mean? Can you give me any help?

It is a Spanish Surname, I guess it first appeared in Asturias, Spain. I thought I only had one match with a genetic distance of -7 at the 67 marker level. I still don't quite understand all this DNA stuff but I am getting it a little bit. What do you think that could possibly mean? Thanks for your help, Vinny

I am reluctant anymore to engage in guesswork about "tribes" and all that, but you sure do seem to have quite a group of fairly close 67-marker Scottish and Irish neighbors.

Maybe it's a Celtic thing?

I haven't had the time to really analyze your haplotype for off-modal stuff, but I noticed that you and several of your haplotype neighbors share 391=10, and that's interesting. You also have 389-1=15 (your neighbors have 14), and I believe the modal there is 13.

Interesting. You might have some kind of cluster there, but I would need to look more closely and get the help of another couple of sets of eyes to be sure.

So do we know when that will start to test for the s series? And what will that tell me? I didn’t realize that so many R1b1c’s have not been able to be classified.
